Department Overview

The Legal department provides support for issues relating to laws and regulations, corporate policies, contracts, litigation, and more.

The Impact You Will Have

This role is part of a growing legal team supporting various corporate functions. The Senior Vice President & Associate General Counsel-Litigation, Ethics & Compliance, who will report to the General Counsel, will provide legal counsel primarily focused on litigation, contract dispute resolution, and legal and regulatory compliance.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Managing and advising on commercial disputes, including managing litigation.
  • Tracking, reporting, and analyzing pre-litigation and litigation events.
  • Negotiating and structuring settlements of commercial disputes.
  • Collaborating with the legal team and other colleagues to understand and mitigate litigation risk.
  • Supporting internal investigations, as needed.
  • Managing and administering the Code of Conduct and Walker & Dunlop’s Ethics Program policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Developing and managing relevant ethics and compliance programming, training, awareness, and outreach.
  • Regularly assessing and developing programming to maintain Walker & Dunlop’s ethical culture.
  • Managing and coordinating outside legal counsel.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Attendance is generally 8:30 am – 5:30 pm EST Monday through Friday, with the ability to work up to 1 of those days remotely.

Education and Experience

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Membership in good standing in a state Bar.
  • Ten+ years of litigation, corporate investigation, contract dispute resolution, and ethics program experience with a top-tier law firm or in-house at a financial or other regulated institution.
  • Experience developing and managing legal and regulatory ethics and compliance programs.
  • Experience counseling senior business clients on a wide variety of litigation and legal risk issues.
  • Experience analyzing inquiries and complaints and interpreting corporate policies related to financial reporting, fraud, conflicts of interest, among others.
  • Experience with risk assessment, mitigation, and management.
  • Ability to effectively/proactively handle multiple cases, including managing and coordinating outside counsel.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of litigation procedures.
  • Familiarity with commercial real estate matters and concepts.
  • Superior business acumen with the ability to balance legal issues with business objectives.
  • Effective communication skills with a variety of contacts, including outside counsel, senior management, and other business colleagues.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and business partnering skills.
  • High standards of integrity and good judgment.
  • Commitment to producing high-quality work.

This position has an estimated base salary of $225,000 - $250,000 plus discretionary bonus and stock compensation. An employment offer is based on the applicant’s relevant work experience, applicable knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
