Shift: Varied Description: Understands and adheres to the Facility Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Performs embedding and sectioning of tissue blocks following section protocol as to biopsies, routine, etc. Evaluates routine stain daily (H&E), reviews for inconsistencies and confirms and/or corrects before releasing slides. Performs Special Stains and evaluates for inconsistencies and confirms and/or correct before releasing slides, Checks positive controls and documents on run log(s). Performs Immuno histochemistries, and evaluates for inconsistencies and confirms and/or correct before releasing slides, Checks positive and negative controls and documents on run log(s). Education & Experience Requirements NYS Clinical Laboratory Technician License or NYS PA License required. Degree in Medical Technology or related science preferred with one year of relevant hospital experience in Histology. ASCP preferred Core Competencies Flexibility Organized Adaptability Attention to Detail Stress Tolerance Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc Must be able to remain stationary for extended/prolonged periods Must be able to constantly operate computer, equipment and other devices Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruptions and attend to tasks for more than sixty (60) minutes at a time.
