Job Description

Job Summary: Performs blood collection by phlebotomy and capillary puncture in a safe, accurate and professional manner. Receives customers (e.g., patients, physicians, visitors). Interacts with all types of patients and visitors in a pleasant, efficient, and cooperative manner. Monitors patients for unexpected reactions and responds to emergent situations, as required. Performs collections on all age groups and degree of difficulty, both inpatient and outpatient. Works with Medical Lab staff to provide efficient and timely collections. Provides other collection services including sweat chlorides, chain-of-custody, ambulatory blood pressures, and provides instructions for patient specimen collection. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. Experience in high complexity medical lab performing specimen collection and computer data entry preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrated history of increasing responsibility. Possesses excellent dexterity and analytic skills. Ability to plan and organize technical work, manage workload, operate technical instruments and equipment, input data and type. Possesses clear speaking abilities in English. Ability to use available resource material independently to resolve and document challenges constructively. Possesses excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills in English matching the style to the message and the audience. Maintains excellent interpersonal relationships with all customers (e.g., staff, patients, vendors). Provides staff and management with timely information, constructive and actionable feedback. Fosters cooperation and collaboration actively solicits opinions from others and builds respect and trust. Explains and teaches. Responds to guidance constructively. Detail oriented. Able to reason and solve problems effectively. Able to organize work, to service multiple requests and tasks at one time, while maintaining quality and a professional manner. Self-motivated and works well with minimal direction. Articulates logical and well-founded arguments that support conclusions.

Licensures and Certifications: State of California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I required. American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required. California Driver's License required (excluding Murrieta Hospital).
