Litigation Paralegal

Venable LLP's Commercial Litigation California practice group seeks a paralegal with two to five years of experience to join the practice in the San Francisco office. The paralegal performs substantive tasks that assist our case teams at every stage of the litigation process (pleading, factual and expert discovery, mediation, arbitration, pre-trial, trial and post-trial/appellate stages). The projects range from case material compilation for attorney review to participation at trial. This position is an opportunity for motivated and enthusiastic individuals interested in law school to gain prior legal experience.

Primary Responsibilities
* Prepare subpoenas and deposition notices;
* Coordinate and handle filings in electronic and paper format, in state and federal courts;
* Coordinate and handle service of process for state and federal court matters;
* Request records, medical records and authorizations;
* Prepare cast of characters and chronology of events;
* Prepare record and deposition summaries;
* Draft form pleadings and form discovery;
* Review court dockets for case team review and case information;
* Prepare and organize exhibits for motions and /or depositions;
* Perform social media search;
* Cite checking and Shepardizing legal memoranda;
* Create and maintain databases for case and document management;
* Prepare spreadsheets and otherwise track discovery requests;
* Organize and supervise document productions in conjunction with Practice Technology professionals and vendors;
* Coordinate in and out-of-town depositions;
* Oversee logistical preparations related to depositions, hearings, trials, arbitrations, and mediations;
* Prepare and organize trial notebooks and demonstrative exhibits;
* Meet the firm's billable hours expectation for our paralegals; and,
* Attend and assist at trial, arbitration, and mediation.

Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree with two to five years of substantive commercial litigation experience within a law firm;
* Experience with e-filings in state and federal courts and/or working with other legal professionals to get the filings prepared and e-filed;
* Experience with review tools such as Relativity, TextMap, and other share filing related software;
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel;
* Outstanding organizational, administrative, and communication (oral and written) skills;
* Possess high attention to detail, a strong work ethic and is self-motivated;
* Demonstrate ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, efficiently multi-task and produce a high-end work product in a fast-paced environment;
* Team-oriented mindset;
* Handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion; and,
* Ability and willingness to work overtime and travel. The anticipated base salary for this position is $80,000 - $130,000 per year. The actual salary offered will be based on a number of job related factors including, but not limited to, years of related experience, level of education, skills, credentials and certifications, responsibilities and performance.
