MTC Quality Engineer The MTC Quality Engineer will take a proactive role in establishing and maintaining quality standards in the production of aerospace and automotive parts. As part of a startup, this role requires a hands-on approach to quality assurance in a fast-paced production environment, where innovation and rapid scaling are essential. The MTC Quality Engineer will develop, implement, and execute quality plans and control processes to ensure product integrity as production scales. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, possess deep technical knowledge of aerospace/automotive standards, and be comfortable in a startup environment where flexibility and problem-solving are critical. This Quality Engineer role in a startup environment requires someone with both technical expertise and a hands-on approach. The engineer will be pivotal in setting up scalable systems and ensuring that parts production meets rigorous quality standards as the company grows. THE MTC QUALITY ENGINEER WILL . . . Quality Plan Development: Develop comprehensive quality assurance plans for parts production, ensuring compliance with aerospace and automotive industry standards (e.g., AS9100, IATF 16949). Define critical quality metrics and establish procedures for monitoring product quality throughout the production lifecycle. Collaborate with design and production teams to create quality standards and product specifications. Hands-on Quality Control: Work directly on the production floor to inspect parts, monitor manufacturing processes, and implement quality control measures. Utilize inspection tools (CMM, calipers, micrometers) to perform dimensional and functional inspections on parts. Investigate and resolve quality issues in real-time during production, driving root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions. Process Development & Continuous Improvement: Develop and optimize inspection methods and production processes to improve quality and efficiency. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects, rework, and scrap, while increasing production throughput. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline production workflows and integrate quality processes into daily operations. Scaling Quality Operations: Create scalable quality systems and procedures to support increased production volumes as the business grows. Implement statistical process control (SPC) techniques to monitor and control production quality at scale. Develop quality documentation such as Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to support scale-up efforts. Supplier Quality Management: Work with suppliers to establish and maintain incoming material quality standards, ensuring that raw materials meet required specifications. Lead supplier audits and implement corrective actions when necessary to improve supplier performance. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all production processes comply with relevant regulatory standards (FAA, DOT, etc.) and customer-specific requirements. Prepare for and manage external audits, ensuring that all documentation and records meet regulatory and certification standards. Data Collection & Reporting: Collect, analyze, and report on quality data to identify trends and areas for improvement. Prepare quality reports for leadership, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs) such as First Pass Yield, defect rates, and customer complaints. Training & Mentorship: Train production staff on quality standards, inspection techniques, and the importance of quality control. Act as a mentor to junior quality staff, providing guidance on quality best practices and procedures. Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE MTC QUALITY ENGINEER Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. Certifications such as CQE (Certified Quality Engineer), Six Sigma (Green Belt/Black Belt), or similar are a plus. 5 years of experience in quality engineering, preferably in aerospace or automotive parts production. Hands-on experience in a startup or fast-paced manufacturing environment is highly desired. Proven experience with quality management systems (QMS) such as AS9100 (aerospace) or IATF 16949 (automotive). Experience with quality management software and tools for data collection and analysis. Proficiency with quality inspection tools (CMM, calipers, micrometers) and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing). Strong knowledge of process control methodologies, including SPC (Statistical Process Control) and FMEA. Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, design, and supply chain. Ability to work independently in a startup environment where flexibility and multitasking are critical. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions. Ability to develop solutions that balance quality, production efficiency, and scalability.
