SUMMARY:
The Friends for All Lab/Phlebotomy is a healthcare professional who combines the skills of a laboratory technician with the specialized ability to draw blood (phlebotomy). This role involves both the collection of blood samples and the performance of various laboratory tests and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greet patients, verify their identities, explain procedures, and address any concerns to ensure a positive experience.
- Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures to collect blood samples from patients of all ages, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Label, process, and store specimens correctly to maintain sample integrity and prevent contamination for external lab processing.
- Conduct routine and specialized laboratory tests on collected blood samples and other specimens.
- Use laboratory equipment and technologies to analyze samples and generate accurate test results.
- Complete proper and timely documentation of services in writing and in Athena, CAREware, Evaluation Web, Redcap, Apricot, and any other database, as needed.
- Record and manage test results and patient information in the laboratory information system (LIS).
- Maintain thorough and organized documentation for all laboratory procedures and findings.
- Ensure all laboratory and phlebotomy equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and cleaned. Arrange for repairs or replacements as necessary.
- Conduct quality control tests and calibrations on laboratory equipment to maintain accuracy and reliability of test results. Identify and troubleshoot issues with instruments and methodologies.
- Adhere to laboratory, health, and safety protocols, including the handling and disposal of hazardous/biohazardous materials. Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards (e.g., HIPAA, CLIA, CAP, OSHA).
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Regular and predictable punctuality and attendance is required
- Return all calls, emails and text in a timely manner.
- Participate in weekly or biweekly coaching sessions with supervisor
- Complete Performance Reviews and SMART GOALS
- Participate in All Staff Meetings and In-Service Days
- Provide back up support for clerical duties to include scheduling and confirming patient appointments, answering incoming calls, responding to emails, and engaging with patients via phone, text, email, and the EMR.
- Provide back up support for Medical Assistant; responsibilities include collecting patient vitals and history, performing phlebotomy and lab procedures, and conducting point-of-care testing.
- May need to travel in personal vehicle to meet staff, clients, or community partners at FFA locations or at other locations to meet the needs of the position

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- High school diploma or GED (required)
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
- Must have 2+ years of experience in a clinical setting, such as a medical testing laboratory, hospital, or medical office
- Must have 2+ years of experience in phlebotomy
- Experience working with electronic health records and other documentation platforms
- Good strategic/critical thinker, self-starter, goal-oriented
- Excellent verbal and written communications.
- Ability to operate with purpose, urgency and accuracy in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment -- with particular attention to detail and organization
- Ability to work with a diverse client population
- Strong relationship-builder both with team and clients (internal and external)
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Maintain confidential information and adhere to all Friends For All policies and procedures regarding sharing of financial information and Protected Health Information (PHI).
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., CPT by NHA, RPT by AMT) preferred.
- Additional certification in laboratory technology (e.g., MLT by ASCP) plus.
- Must have a valid State Driver’s License, provide proof of automobile insurance coverage to employer at all times and have an automobile to be used daily.

OSHA CATEGORY:
This position performs tasks that may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Training will be provided per Standard Operating Procedure for your area of operation. All FFA employees are offered the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis B vaccination series.
