Wesley Glen Ministries is looking for a Cook to join our team! Wesley Glen Ministries is a non-profit organization that provides services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In this position, you will manage our small, in-house kitchen to prepare lunches for our Day Program participants (approximately 60 people) and provide 10 take-home dinners that can just be warmed up in the oven.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, Part-time approximately 20 hours.

Purpose: The Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of dishes to meet quality, taste, and presentation standards. This role involves working as part of a team to ensure the kitchen operates efficiently, maintaining food safety standards, and delivering excellent dining experiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Food Preparation & Cooking:

  • Prepare and cook menu items according to recipes, portion sizes, and customer specifications.
  • Prep take-home dinner meals for each residential household.
  • Ensure all dishes are presented professionally.

Kitchen Operations:

  • Set up and stock workstations with ingredients and supplies.
  • Follow prep lists and production schedules to maintain smooth service.
  • Monitor food stock and place orders when necessary to prevent shortages.

Compliance & Hygiene:

  • Adhere to food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards in compliance with regulations.
  • Properly handle and store food to minimize waste and spoilage.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations and kitchen policies.

Teamwork & Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other cooks and kitchen staff to ensure timely service.
  • Communicate effectively to coordinate orders during busy periods.
  • Assist with training new staff when needed.

Maintenance and Cleaning:

  • Clean and sanitize cooking surfaces, equipment, and tools regularly.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is in working order, reporting any issues to management.

Job Qualifications:

Education & Required Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Cook or similar role in a professional kitchen.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and best practices.
  • Familiarity with various cooking techniques and equipment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift/carry 35 pounds.
  • Duties may include bending or stooping for various durations of time.
  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift heavy items when necessary.
  • Duties may occasionally include overhead work, reaching, pulling, and pushing items.
