WATER & SEWER UTILITIES - Equipment Operator II

DESCRIPTION

A Equipment Operator II for the Water & Sewer Utilities Department performs work involving the operation of large or heavy equipment such as, but not limited to: backhoes, bulldozers, trackhoes, dump trucks, mini excavators, jet machines and trenchers.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma/GED Valid CDL Class A Texas Driver License is preferred
  • Ability to attend and pass C & D Water Distribution/Wastewater Treatment License within 36-months of hire
  • Two (2) years operational experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment and trucks

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodation, that the essential functions of the job can be performed:

  • Knowledge of the geographic layout of the city
  • Knowledge of the operating characteristics, methods, techniques, procedures and maintenance of machines and equipment operated
  • Skill in the set up and operation of tools associated with construction grading and excavating process
  • Skill in reading plans and cut sheets used in laying water and sewer lines
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and protocols, and experience implementing safety programs is required
  • Skill in the operation and use of heavy equipment
  • Ability to read and understand written guidelines from manuals, blueprints, and regulations
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Performs skilled and semi-skilled general labor, maintenance and repair work
  • Operates a variety of motorized/specialized equipment and vehicles for construction, repair and maintenance (Ex: backhoes, bulldozers and excavators)
  • Maintains City's water and sewer systems, infrastructure, facilities and grounds in accordance with all city ordinances as well as state and federal regulations and procedures
  • Transports material, vehicles and equipment to the job site
  • Inspects, cleans and performs routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment
  • Completes required daily logs and reports
  • Assigned to an on-call schedule as needed
  • Serves as crew foreman when foreman is absent
  • Various other duties as assigned

Water & Utilities Superintendent

HOURLY RATE:
$17.42
FULL TIME

SCHEDULE:
Monday - Friday
8 AM - 5 PM
