GENERAL FUNCTION: The painter is responsible for painting components, equipment, interiors and exteriors of vessels using spray guns, brushes and rollers. Uses solvents to wash surfaces to remove grease, rust scale and dirt. Washes and treats surface with turpentine and other preparations. Mixes batches of paint, varnish and stain. Operates spray-painting equipment and brushes or rolls paint on surfaces. Masks specified areas of object to protect from over spray. May examine finished surfaces to ensure conformance to specifications.

Prepare surface for painting by using solvents.

Mixes primer or paints to be applied to surfaces.

Applies paint using spray guns, rollers or brushes according to specifications.

Maintains equipment after use by properly cleaning and storing.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of the various types of spray guns, their use in application of paint and maintenance of them. Knowledge of various paint products and their application. Knowledge of spraying techniques utilized within the industry. Knowledge of safety requirements used in spray painting.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: A minimum of one year spray painting experience in a heavy industrial environment.
