Position Type: Facilities Maintenance/CarpenterDate Posted: 11/14/2024Location: Facilities ManagementDate Available: 01/06/2025POSITION SUMMARY Under general supervision of the Facilities Manager, performs carpentry and related work in the maintenance, repair and modification of district buildings, structures and facilities. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Installs, repairs and/or replaces floors, walls, windows, and ceilings in classrooms, buildings or facilities. Repairs and/or replaces siding, roof sheathing, facias or other structural components such as steps, stairs, landings, railings and installation of associated hardware. Repairs and replaces doors, thresholds, bookcases, weather stripping, bulletin and chalk boards, white boards, laminate surfaces, countertops, cabinets, wall coverings, drywall, floor tile etc. Provides hands on technical and professional guidance to building maintenance workers possessing the aptitude and willingness to learn. Fabricates, engraves and installs signage. Determines portable classroom layouts, elevations and grades. Constructs and sets concrete forms. Provides cost and materials estimates for assigned projects. Assembles, installs, and /or fabricates office and special education furniture as necessary. Coordinates with other trades and crafts for efficient job scheduling. Performs related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction Ability to safely operate power and hand tools common in the carpentry trade. Ability to interpret and work from blue prints, diagrams and sketches and verbal instructions. Knowledge of standard and accepted industry practices and carpentry methods, materials and products. Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations. Ability to work safely, cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members. Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies. Ability to handle confrontation and conflict without an emotional response. QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or equivalent 4 years previous carpentry experience Valid Arizona Driver's License Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
