Description The Learning Specialists will serve on the School of Medicines Center for Holistic Student Success Team. The position will focus on 1:1 academic student support meetings, workshops, and community-building events. The Learning Specialist will provide support to the Center for Holistic Student Success in three primary areas: improving access to mental health resources; improving access to academic support; and improving trust and sense of belonging for all students in the School of Medicine. JOB DESCRIPTION: Assess the academic progress of at-risk students and assist them in developing individualized study and remediation plans. Create proactive student success interventions and analyze student outcome data. Collect relevant programmatic data through the monitoring of trends in student needs. Assist with the training, development, and organizing of EUSOM tutors. Facilitate workshops focused on academic support interventions within or across 6 academic programs. Collaborate with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), religious and spiritual life as well as community providers to ensure optimal mental health offerings across SOM. Advocate for issues important to the students and community as a whole. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree required. 1-3 years of related experience required. Experience providing services in at least three of the following areas required: Experience advising students in their study strategies: didactic, clinical and standardized testing. Licensure examination preparation experience in any of the following or related health science fields: Step 1 and Step 2 preparation for MD students; PANCE for Physician Assistant (PA) students; National Physical Therapy Examination for Physical Therapy (DPT) students; American Board of Genetic Counseling Certified Genetic Counselor Examination for Genetic Counseling (GC) students; National Board of the Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistant (AA) Examination Work/life integration and time management Clinical, basic science, and higher education experiencing specifically in medical and/or health science education. In the absence of health science specific, experience with high achieving learners. Experience working with students with disabilities and the didactic and clinical accommodations needed. Experience working with diverse student learners including but not limited to students underrepresented in medicine, international students and students with English as a second language.
