Job Overview:
A growing criminal defense law firm is seeking an associate attorney to assist with a large caseload of criminal and commercial driver traffic citations at the municipal and county levels. The position offers excellent collaboration with attorneys and staff in a positive and team-oriented work environment. On-the-job training will be provided, and no prior experience is necessary, though it is preferred. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and a desire to work on criminal defense matters in Texas.
Location:
Texas Duties:
Conduct client consultations via phone, in-person, or virtually to discuss pending charges and devise defense strategies. Perform legal and factual research to ensure the best possible outcome for clients. Attend pretrial hearings in person, by phone, or virtually, and provide clients with updates and advice following each hearing. Negotiate and complete plea agreements in collaboration with prosecutors. Communicate with courts for resetting pretrial hearings and completing plea agreements. File appeals to county courts when necessary. Assist clients with executing plea bargains and other agreements with county and district attorney offices. Advise clients on the potential long-term effects of their plea agreements. Perform basic office tasks such as working with Word, Outlook, e-filing, faxing, and scanning. Requirements:
1 year of experience in criminal defense or traffic citation cases preferred. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to conduct legal and factual research effectively. Ability to negotiate plea agreements and collaborate with prosecutors. Must be licensed to practice law in Texas. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Education:
J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school. Certifications & Skills:
Texas Bar License (Required). Basic computer skills (Word, Outlook, e-filing, faxing, and scanning). Strong writing, research, and negotiation skills.
