Job DescriptionThe Industrial Equipment NPD Engineering team is seeking a Lab Technician, who will play a key role in the support and development of new products. The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, project managers, and third-party representatives to test, validate, and develop the next generation of welding equipment. He or she will perform required lab tests under the direction of engineering and will be responsible for maintaining documentation for reliability testing and third-party certification. The ability to diagnose and identify electrical and mechanical issues arising in products under development is expected. They will also occasionally work with manufacturing to provide guidance and training for the assembly of new products. Attention to detail is a must as this position facilitates the development of our owner’s manuals and other forms of supporting documentation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Run engineering tests on products that are in development (heat tests, VA curves, abnormal tests, third party certification testing, new design verification testing)
- Carefully document test results and procedures to ensure precise communication and accurate records of product performance
- Construct prototype equipment using various power tools and assembly methods
- Create wiring diagrams, machine schematics, and owner’s manuals under the direction of engineering and marketing
- Diagnose electrical and assembly errors on products that are in development
- Conduct CSA, CAN/CSA-E60974, CE, etc. tests and work with the Third-Party Coordinator to construct, create and/or modify third party reports
- Assist with maintaining the lab area and improving lab efficiency
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two-year technical degree in electronics, electro-mechanical or related field
- Ability to work with high voltage equipment (120VAC – 575VAC)
- Knowledge of printed circuit board assembly and test
- Team player with a positive attitude, high motivation and excellent interpersonal skills who works well in a team environment with minimum supervision.
- A good understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, Macola and ability to write accurate and concise reports is required. Limited travel may be required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in engineering product development and/or support
- Knowledge of IEC and CSA certification requirements and hands-on experience with IEC and CSA testing and technical report preparation.
- Knowledge or experience with various welding processes and equipment
