Job Summary:
The Department of Information Services at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Senior Programmer Analyst, Systems Administrator/Cloud Architect.
The System Administrator/Cloud Architect is charged with installing, configuring, maintaining, managing, and performing upgrades on) Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google, Oracle) and rolling out the organization's Windows and Linux operating systems in a Cloud hosted environment.
The Cloud Architect will be responsible for architecting, configuring, and maintaining Cloud infrastructure and related technologies (AWS EC2, VMC, Azure VMs, S3, VPCs, Landing Zone etc.). Modernizing and adapting applications and processes to Cloud technologies. Ensure that the architecture and solutions are compliant with best practices for Cloud infrastructure. Focus on optimizing performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency. Enforce Cloud governance policies and implement monitoring and alerting solutions to address issues proactively.
Providing support for other Cloud technologies used by the organization such as Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, etc. Providing support assistance for, VMware, Windows, Linux, SAN and NAS storage, file servers, and other infrastructure systems. You will use your experience in information technology as an Open Systems administrator to assist with and maintain current software systems and applications. Assist in troubleshooting and correcting errors, adapting to new technologies, maintaining interfaces, and working with vendors to improve performance and keep costs within budget.
Additional responsibilities of the System Administrator include Assisting in solving IT problems, developing procedures, providing support to administration for meaningful use processes. Assisting in preparing systems and users for upgrades and hotfixes in addition to providing troubleshooting services and support for all operating systems, applications, and program problems. Performing daily maintenance of existing and future software.
The incumbent will apply proven communication and problem-solving skills to guide and assist user groups on issues related to the design, development, and deployment of software systems. Provide project management and coordination for system infrastructure projects. This position may require flexible scheduling to provide services to other shifts and systems that must remain up 24x7.

Additional duties and responsibilities will include:
- Communicates with management & project staff on such matters as budget, departmental IT requirements, policies & procedures, project status, new programs, etc., within time frames specified.
- Provide access to information in supporting patient care, education, and research. Provide business process analysis and reengineering whenever possible. Keeps abreast of current practices, services, relationships, and the impact of external factors on the organization.
- Oversees the 3rd party system integrators and subcontractors. Possess the ability to bridge information systems technology to users.
- Installs new software releases, system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches, resolves software related problems. Diagnose and resolve complex problems involving servers and storage.
- Performs system backups/images and recovery. Monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity.
- Has knowledge and experience of cyber security best practices. Access management, malware detection and remediation. Create user accounts and maintain security levels.
- Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and system administration procedures.
- Ability to work proficiently in UNIX/Linux and Windows operating systems environments.
- Strong Knowledge of Amazon AWS and related technologies (EC2, VMC, FSX, S3, VPC, etc.
- Strong Knowledge of Microsoft Azure and related technologies (VMs, Storage, Virtual Network).
- Knowledge of VMWare, , Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, Disaster Recovery technologies.
- Capacity planning, Cloud resources cost management, systems lifecycle management.
- Responsibility for documenting the configuration of the system, Answering technical queries.
- Troubleshooting any reported problems, System performance tuning.
- Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Computer Science or Information technology, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
- 4+ years of experience in computer support services in the Healthcare industry.
- 5+ years solid experience with AWS or Azure Cloud architecting, migration, and support.
- Strong Knowledge of AWS and Azure Cloud technologies.
- In-depth knowledge of DNS, TCP/IP, HTTP, CDN, and VPC.
- Cloud infrastructure expertise is a plus (Azure, Google, Oracle, others).
- Backup and Disaster recovery software (Rubrik/Zerto/SRM) is highly desirable.
- Excellent teamwork and teambuilding skills.
- Ability to work off hours and weekends when business needs require.
- Technical certificates are preferred.
- VMware experience (vSphere, VMC, NSX, HCX) a desirable plus.
- Knowledge of Storage technologies (Pure Storage, NetApp, S3, FSX) highly desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and/or communication, analytical, team building management, and organizational skills, with creative approaches to information systems issues and problems.
- Demonstrated record of bringing together diverse functions and build effective teams involving all categories of health care employees is a plus.
