The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Network Operations the Wireless Engineer is responsible for wireless and wired network support for the entirety of departments within the hospital. They will be part of a team that provides onsite and remote first and second level support on and off campus for wireless as well as wired networking issues and installations.
Responsibilities
- Plan, design implement and operate LAN\WLAN infrastructures 5%
- Ability to triage and troubleshoot network or perceived network access of various endpoints across the enterprise 10%
- Work with internal teams for solution designs for new products being used. This includes endpoint management, security, biomedical engineering and other teams 5%
- Write technical reference and user troubleshooting guides for common issues 10%
- Create and update site and network diagrams and other internal technical information 5%
- Perform predictive and post deployment wireless surveys. Ekahau experience preferred 10%
- Perform spectrum analysis and packet captures (OTA and controller) to troubleshoot wireless association and RF related issues 10%
- Analysis of 802.11 and data plane packet captures with Wireshark 10%
- Troubleshooting issues end to end through multiple routing protocols, firewalls and F5s 5%
- Deep familiarity with 802.1x, 802.11 standards, and RADIUS 5%
- Working knowledge of Clearpass, Aruba 8.x, Cisco AireOS and Cisco Catalyst 9800 (We use all of these along with Cisco DNA Center, Cisco Prime, Aruba Airwave and Aruba Central for SD-WAN) 10%
- Ability to query and analyze and visualize syslog data through machine generated tools 5%
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment across different locations in the greater NY area 5%
- On call responsibilities 5%
Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor-level computer engineering or computer science degree or equivalent work experience.
- Certifications from Cisco, Aruba and/or CWNP are a plus (CCNA, CCNP, ACMP, CWNA, CWNP)
- Working knowledge of layer 2 protocols (STP\PVST+\RPVSTP etc).
- Working knowledge of Network Access Control (NAC) and policy management platforms for device onboarding and privileged level access.
- 5+ years of experience with large scale Cisco and/or Aruba WLAN infrastructure
- 5+ years of experience with 802.1x, RADIUS, EAP and modern WLAN architectures
- 5+ years of experience supporting a large, distributed, multi-vendor environment
- 3-5 years of experience working with BGP and OSPF in a large enterprise. Experience with EVPN, VXLAN and active/active architectures a plus.
- Ability to work on multiple projects within a team as well as individually drive resolution to incidents.
