Business Development / Research Specialist - Solar

SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking a Business Development and Research Specialist who will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of business development goals for our Solar group. This position will work mostly with internal stakeholders. This role will require travel of approximately 50%.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist the business development team in positioning activities

  • Provide assistance to the business development manager and director on market sector positioning and lead research for current and future markets
  • Serve as a networking link with engineering consultants and subcontractors
  • Perform research, compile market data, customer cold calling, and networking in support of business lead prospecting efforts

Coordinate proposals and marketing efforts in support of the business development team

  • Assist with scheduling customer meetings
  • Perform technical writing in support of proposals, qualifications, submittals and branding materials.
  • Ensure schedules are met and various aspects of the proposal (Technical Scope, Staff Qualification and Experience, and Biographical Data, etc.), as well as marketing materials are accurate and delivered in a timely manner
  • Support proposal preparation, including gathering, verifying, and formatting proposal information
  • Assist in the preparation of materials for customer presentations
  • Attend pre-proposal meetings
  • Perform general coordination of information between business development and preconstruction

Other duties as assigned, including:

  • Coordinate and participate in business development activities such as trade show appearances, conventions, conferences, etc.
  • Support the business development team with administrative functions, such as meeting minutes, customer satisfaction surveys, file maintenance, and lead data management, customer data management, etc.

Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum three years construction experience or prior industry-related business development experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Construction Management, Engineering or related field
  • Ability to travel approximately 50%
  • Solar industry experience is preferred
  • Proficiency in tracking and managing wide range of leads with a focus on follow through and closure
  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Knowledge of construction law and generally accepted business practices
  • Microsoft Office, project and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level
  • Shown positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
  • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies
  • Current driver's license

The base pay range for this role is $79,000 - 106,700. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
