We are currently searching for a
Senior MCR/Ingest Engineer
to fill a full-time ongoing contract position with our client, a 24-hour international public news media corporation.
Position is onsite in Washington, DC.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities: •Ensures healthy operating conditions of MCR systems and services identifying service-impacting anomalies and alerting appropriate personnel as needed. •Provide 1st level support for various MCR sub-systems to maintain services ON AIR. •Analyze and diagnose systems faults/alarms occurrences, analyses services incidents, and reports to broadcast engineering and services providers as applicable and follow-up on rectification progress. •Taking part io the implementation of the MCR preventive and corrective maintenance plans, taking part in the MCR systems updates and upgrades through assessing changes and risk on operations. •Communicate with the Facilities Section to coordinate the flow of incoming News or Programs. •Operate the core technical facilities for the acquisition of live news via satellite, fiber or IP Technology. •Undertake Quality Control and transcoding of all incoming streams or package transfers to Media Servers. •Coordinate effectively with operators in the field to support remote operations via satellite, fiber, and IP networks. •Reports clearly in the booking system all issues observed during transmissions. •Identify faults and take immediate preventative action to restore traffic. •Undertakes routine testing, preventative and corrective maintenance of transmission systems and ancillary equipment. •Provide technical operational and engineering support to other technical areas within the broadcast center. •Ensure correct satellite access procedures are implemented on leased space capacity. •Ensure the monitoring and adjustment of incoming video streams according to the broadcasting technical standards.
Other Responsibilities: •Provide level 1 equipment support to crews in the field. •Report technical issues to Handovers and Ticketing System. •Operate DTL camera position. •SNG - Field Operations. •MCR / Ingest Rooms in other Broadcast centers. •Ensure accuracy of Handovers and Logs. •Train new staff. •Take part in writing new Standard Technical Operational Procedures or changes required. •Correct technical Operational Diagrams and/or workflows if required. •Assist Engineering Department for Project work •Perform other duties as assigned from time to time by his/her superiors.
Education: •Bachelor's degree in Electronics/Telecommunication/Broadcast Engineering.
Experience: •A minimum of 5 years' experience in a 24-hour news MCR environment or working in a Media Technical department.
Skills: •Skills in any of the following areas depending on specialization on either RF, Compression or Baseband (as applicable). •Excellent Skills in Troubleshooting, configuration and setup of different RF Systems and equipment (KA, DBS, Ku, C Bands). •Excellent Skills in Troubleshooting, configuration and setup of different Digital Compression Systems and equipment. •Excellent Skills in Troubleshooting, configuration and setup of different broadcast systems and equipment. •Excellent Analytical Skills. •Excellent in written and verbal communication. •Excellent Computer skills. •Adaptable to change. •Security and safety skills. •Able to report technical issues through clear diagrams •Commitment to solving problems quickly and effectively. •To be able to translate user requirements into technical requirements and technical
specifications.
Knowledge: •Knowledge on any of the following areas depending on specialization on either RF.,
Compression or Baseband (as applicable). •Knowledge in Satellite Communications Systems and standards (ITU, FCC). •Knowledge in Broadcast Systems and standards (SMPTE). •Knowledge in MPEG Systems and standards. •Knowledge in DVB Systems and standards {HR 290). •Knowledge in various RF Systems Equipment. •Knowledge in various Antenna mechanisms. •Knowledge in the configuration of various Digital Compression Systems. •Knowledge in various Major Baseband Broadcast Equipment. •Comprehensive understanding of a live 24-hour news environment. •Satellite communication technology including Downlink, Uplinks, l-band Matrix, IRD's
and spectrum Analyzers. •Optical Fiber Technology. •Video Compression. •Broadcast media server workflows - Ingest - Transcoding. •IP networks {TCP/IP, FTP, UDP, Streaming and Store and Forward). •Newsroom production systems and procedures. •live Position camera basic settings.
Abilities: •Able to learn, understand, and apply new methods. •Able to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. •Able to change and improve. •Able to read and interpret schematic drawings, flow diagrams, and technical manuals. •Able to work in rotational shifts 24/7 /36S. •Ability to work flexible shifts to support a 24/7 36S facility. •Ability to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.

Pay Range:
$63 - $68 hourly DOE.
