Principal Engineer
supporting Software Life Cycle Management for Alcon's Medical Devices ,
you will be trusted with developing software for use in operating/controlling computer hardware, which provides a platform for running end user applications. In this role, a typical day will include: Primary function is to code software updates for host modules for a variety of medical device systems using C#, WPF, C++, and SQL. Collaborate closely with software development (onshore and offshore), and other teams such as: Software Verification and Validation, Technical Support, Field Service, Manufacturing, Clinical, and other Operations, and customer-facing organizations to support necessary software changes. Document and execute change-related unit and integration tests. Provides inputs for scope, impact, validity, and effectiveness of test methodologies. Acts as a liaison for investigations and troubleshooting activities. Troubleshoots anomalies and field issues Evaluates third-party changes for impact to software, and defines recommended solutions Creates and incorporates software changes according to defined processes and procedures, including software configuration, in line with industry standards and regulations. Provides input for software documentation updates as required for development projects and changes. Collaborates with Product Security teams to support implementation of cybersecurity updates and changes.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON: Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +13 yrs; Assoc.+9 yrs; M.S.+2 yrs; PhD+0 yrs) The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English. 5 Years of Relevant Experience
Preferred Qualifications: Degree in Computer Science or other related discipline Proficient with C#, WPF, C++, and Visual Studios, strongly preferred Proficient with .NET and SQL Ability to work cross-functionally with a variety of stakeholders. Ability to work independently, proactively identify issues, recommend, and implement solutions, and deliver quality results on schedule while managing multiple tasks and internal customers Solid understanding of Window operating environments (Win10, etc.) Experience with one or more software configuration management systems and related tools, such as: Confluence, Jenkins, AWS DevOps, Jira, Git, GitHub, TFS Knowledge of networking and cybersecurity concepts are a plus Experience with Microsoft Visual Studios, ADO, or other integrated development environment (IDE) tool Prior experience creating and executing software testing at unit, integration, and system levels Familiar with FDA/ISO regulations for software development, prefer including IEC 62304 Understanding of Software Development Lifecycle Management (SDLC) - (Agile/Scrum, iterative) Good interpersonal & Communication skills to build positive departmental and inter-departmental relationships in a variety of environments Medical device experience is preferred
