Description Senior Mechanical Engineer Role Description:
Huitt-Zollars' National Capital Region office (located in Alexandria, VA), or our Fort Worth, Texas location has a Senior Mechanical Engineer opportunity. This role works with multi-disciplinary design teams in the completion of studies, development of plans and specifications for a broad range of projects. The successful candidate will work on the design team delivering full plans and specifications for a wide variety of projects, both locally and in support of offices across the country. The successful candidate will be a licensed Professional Engineer with at least 10 years of experience in the field of engineering related to mechanical building systems and infrastructure experience including mechanical, HVAC, plumbing systems and/or architectural engineering.
The successful candidate must be able to obtain licenses in Virginia, the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Texas upon request and the ability to obtain Federal Security Clearance. Location:

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSCE) Duties: Perform mechanical building systems and infrastructure engineering design functions on a variety of large public and private developments Conduct business development activities and cultivate client relationships. Lead and manage the project delivery within the area office and project teams. Develop scope, budget and schedules and negotiate projects with clients. Assist with recruitment of new engineers, architects and other team members for projects as needed. Manage design team's performance on assigned projects. Perform whole building energy modeling used to support life-cycle analysis which will influence system decisions early in the design process. Direct junior engineers and track performance and utilization. Perform mechanical building systems and infrastructure engineering design functions on a variety of large public and private developments, particularly in the federal sector. Review and understand LEED requirements and verify they are incorporated into the design/construction. Review technical aspects of major design, construction, renovation and/or alterations. Key Responsibilities: Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensures proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects. Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Leads successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client). Contributes to successful delivery and performance of projects Cultivates relationships with clients and holds strong relationships with clients Understands, follows, and enforces Huitt-Zollars' business process including weekly rhythm Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and may be responsible for a stated portion of office sales goal. Assists and/or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develops and/or executes project Win strategy. Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations. Actively engages and participates in the training, coaching, and mentoring of junior staff Understands duties and responsibilities, possesses necessary job knowledge and technical skills, maintains job knowledge current. Qualifications: Licensed PE, registration in licenses in Virginia, the District of Columbia, or Maryland is preferred. Minimum 10 years of related experience. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. LEED AP, CEM credentials and experience with UFC design criteria are preferred. Healthcare design, municipal facilities, and higher education experience is a plus. Experience with high-performance sustainable systems design with a holistic integrated building systems approach. Experience with central utility plants, variable-primary flow systems, ground source systems, fan-wall systems, chilled beam systems, and energy-recovery systems. Ability to obtain Federal Security Clearance. Experience with plumbing and process piping design experience a plus. Working knowledge of building and building system codes (IBC, IECC, IFGC, IMC, IPC, ASHRAE standards and NFPA standards. Proficient in Revit, building load and energy modeling software (HZ uses Trane Trace 700 for both), Bluebeam, AutoCAD. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with Unified facilities guide specifications is a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication. Record holder for licensure in other states preferred but not required.
