Position Title : Field Service Engineer or Technician IV - ( Inspection, Installation, Startup )
Type : Full-Time / Direct Hire
Travel:
50% Field-based 1 st Year Location : San Diego, CA Compensation : $85k - $110k + Strong Bonus & Benefits (If projected travel exceeds this amount, multiple bonuses will be issued to compensate for this.)
Company Overview Our client is a long-time leader in the design of advanced air pollution control systems, is seeking a skilled Chemical Engineer to join their team. Their systems serve industries across chemical, industrial, metallurgical, medical, and pathological waste sectors, using cutting-edge technology like wet scrubbing, condensers, absorbers, and electrostatic precipitators to capture particulate and gaseous emissions. They provide innovative solutions to handle complex processing needs.
Position Summary The Field Service Engineer/Technician IV will be responsible for providing field service support for startups, commissioning, troubleshooting, and servicing automated processing equipment across a variety of industries. This role will involve frequent travel to customer sites in the first year and depending on background/experience, has the potential to transition into more of an office-based design engineering-oriented role as project volume increases, which seems to be the trend. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial control systems and related mechanical components (pumps/valves, piping, vessels, etc.) as well as strong experience either inspecting, troubleshooting, servicing, or installing this equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Startup & Commissioning : Lead the startup and commissioning of gaseous emissions control systems, ensuring successful integration with customer operations. Troubleshooting : Diagnose and obtain resolution for operational issues with SCADA/PLCs, DCS, HMIs, tramitters, pumps, valves, industrial piping, compressors, analyzers, and other control system components. Field Work : Travel to customer sites (~50% in the first year) for system installation. Transition to Office Role : After approximately a year, the role has the potential to shift more towards office-based design engineering support and system optimization. Collaboration & Communication : Work closely with internal teams, project managers, and customers to ensure seamless project execution and customer satisfaction. Training : Provide training and support to customers and in-house teams on equipment operations, safety, and troubleshooting. Having a strong command of field activities is essential for this. Qualifications
Education : Related control systems certifications, A.S., or B.S. in Engineering discipline depending on experience. Experience : Minimum of three years working with industrial process equipment, including startups, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Technical Expertise : Familiarity with process diagrams/P&IDs, pumps, valves, vessels, scrubbers, piping, turbines, and industrial automation components (PLCs, SCADA systems, HMIs). Field Experience : Documented experience in providing field service and troubleshooting in industrial settings. Travel : Willingness to travel up to 50% during the first year, transitioning to an office-based role after that period. Communication : Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and with customers. Safety : Ability to work in compliance with OSHA standards; HAZWOPER certification is a plus. Benefits
