Job Overview
An Integration Engineering Specialist with the Project Operations team within the Solution Delivery platform works with other Bastian Solutions employees, customers, and suppliers to utilize the latest technologies to integrate material handling systems for complex applications. The process involves understanding the customer's goals and objectives, and developing smart engineered solutions to meet these goals. The Project Integration Team is the lead for commissioning, testing, and overall integration of large scale Material Handling solutions. These solutions require cross functional Bastian support often involving Controls, Software, Robotics, Engineering, Sales, and Consulting Teams within the project. Technologies used in this position include the full scope of Material Handling with conveyors ranging from simple gravity conveyor up to cutting edge shoe sorters with servo driven diverts, robotics applications, Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS) from a variety of third-party vendors, and complex add on equipment such as automated carton erectors or print and apply label applicators.
The Integration Engineering Specialist is responsible for supporting automation projects and will be capable of component selection, mechanical commissioning and equipment startup, mechanical/electrical device troubleshooting, HMI validation, PLC programming and debugging, Software debugging, onsite system checkout, and validation of System Throughput and Availability. The Integration Engineering Specialist will be the on site project representative to lead the commissioning activities and Bastian internal and external testing efforts - Functional Readiness Testing (FRT) and Operational Readiness Testing (ORT). As experience grows, the Integration Specialist may be relied on to help organize on site execution, convey site standards into engineering design standards, assist with harmonizing the various teams, develop FRT/ORT documentation, and perform other duties under the guidance of the execution team.
Job Functions Close coordination with Integration Manager and Site Manager Installation, start up, and troubleshooting of equipment supplied by Bastian and external suppliers, whose quality and operation reflects on Bastian and affects the success of the project. Execute assigned system test cases and report progress/status. Identify defects, resolve issues and record in appropriate locations. Modify and debug PLCs, third party automation and ancillary material handling equipment to align with project design. Clear communication with management, engineering, project management and other team members. Manage quality of Integration on all projects to adhere to Bastian Solutions standards. Assist with the development and implementation of standard practices to ensure quality improvement and cost reduction. Work well with others on Bastian and customer teams. Solve technical problems either individually or through collaboration with suppliers, other internal teams, and team members. Deliver successful automation projects with regards to customer satisfaction, schedule, time, and budget. Communicate with other Bastian team members effectively. Check and use voice mail / e-mail diligently. Maintain the team relationship. Attend training and become certified in applicable technologies or programs. Identify new controls, software or hardware techniques or equipment that will help maintain Bastian as a leader in our industry. Complete all administrative tasks/paperwork in timely manner. Other job duties as assigned to support OneBastian projects and processes. Travel Requirements
80% overnight travel (Travel expenses paid by Bastian Solutions) Preferred Skills and Required Qualifications
Experience with Automation, specifically conveyor based material handling systems, a plus Experience with Allen Bradley or Siemens PLCs & HMIs (or equivalent) a plus Aptitude for Hands on Electrical and Mechanical troubleshooting 2D or 3D CAD experience (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc) a plus Extremely computer literate with MS Office products Able to travel depending on project demands and schedules, occasionally with short notice due to schedule delays or changes, up to 80% (Typically 10 days on project site, 4 days home) To learn more about us, click the following link
