Discovery Education is looking for a
Software Engineer
to join our team. You'll join one of our Product Development SCRUM teams where you'll support existing products and help to define, build and deliver new features and products. As a Software Engineer you'll work with your team to enhance, maintain, secure and optimize our applications.
In This Role You Will:
This is a hands-on role where you'll write code daily and contribute to production releases multiple times a month.
Design, build, and maintain our high-volume global education services Collaborate daily with your SCRUM team, provide estimates, perform analysis and write code Participate in our culture of DevOps - support and maintain both code and the infrastructure-as-code within which our applications Contribute daily to the broader engineering team's code review and architecture Continually improve our documentation and standards Deliver clean and performant code to support Discovery Education's web applications Implement new product features, as well as enhance and maintain existing functionality by monitoring solutions and performance characteristics Ensure the scalability and quality of all code Continually improve our development process, documentation and standards Participate in team code reviews to ensure code quality standards Participate in build system maintenance Collaborate with stakeholders and teammates on design and architecture of web applications Core Competencies for Success:
Excellent written and oral communication as well as strong interpersonal skills Proficient in putting together facts about and properties of multiple system components when solving problems and designing improvements and new components Driven self-starter with the ability to do what needs to be done without being micromanaged Ability to manage/prioritize multiple tasks Expert understanding of object-oriented design and programming Excellent problem solving, design, development, and debugging skills Credentials and Experience:
Bachelors Degree in CS related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience 5+ years of production back-end development experience Extensive experience with Python in a large production environment Experience with Flask Experience with SQL (MS SQL Server), MongoDB, Redis and similar databases Bonus Skills:
Web Security, Flask, MongoDB, Kubernetes, Docker, MS SQL Server, i18n, ML and NLP experience
Bonus Qualifications:
Experienced with front end development and JS frameworks, specifically VueJS Experienced with Elastic Search Experienced with Memcached Experienced with Amazon Web Services: EC2, Lambda, S3 Experienced with Terraform Experienced with LTI, SCORM and LMS Interoperability Experienced with build systems and automation Experienced with Internationalization, specifically flask babel or gettext Experienced with oAuth and supporting multiple 3rd party authentication methods
Legal right to work in the United States This role can sit in our Charlotte headquarters or remote.
