Broadwind Heavy Fabrications is adding an Estimator to our team in Manitowoc, WI. This position will develop accurate quotes representative of Broadwind's build process and all associated external costs. The Estimator will work closely with Business Development, Production and Project Management to coordinate schedules and determine internal capacity. The role will also participate in customer interface activities, KPI reporting, and lean initiatives associated with the quoted build process.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

(May include some or all of the following responsibilities)

Estimating: Perform estimating and quoting process in response to customer requests/RFQs. Gather project details working closely with business development to understand full scope of work. Examine customer specifications and details. Review with others to understand customer timeline requirements and Broadwind's capabilities and schedules.

Uses knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication, welding processes, capabilities and capacity to assist sales in product pricing, schedule and technical requirements. Work with Manager to prioritize and manage projects, meeting customer timelines. Organize and maintain records associated with the quoting process; maintain pending quote log. Upon project completion, analyze actual production hours and materials and compare to the quotes.

Establish preliminary Bill of Materials (BOM). Support periodic evaluation of labor rates compared to estimates. Engineering Support:

Support quick and accurate cost estimates including manufacturing strategy, initial routings, and special tooling requirements. Interpret customer technical specifications and assist in clearly communicating requirements to manufacturing engineers through drawings or work instructions. Support manufacturing documentation creation through routing definition, and ERP system support as needed. Support process improvement initiatives using Lean tools and methods, based on opportunities identified during the quoting process. All other duties as assigned. Requirements

Qualifications

Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications

Associate's degree in a related discipline (welding, machining/fabrication, engineering, manufacturing, project management, construction, etc.) required. Bachelor's degree in a related discipline desired. Minimum 2 years of experience to include a combination of: fabrication, heavy steel weldments, structural estimating, engineering, inventory, varying equipment types and environments; experience in process manufacturing, or costing required; OR combination of education and experience. Direct experience in managing projects from inception to delivery (in a metals fabrication environment preferred). Understands a variety of manufacturing/fabrication processes and equipment. Engineering experience or understanding desired; familiarity with CAD desired. Knowledge of basic statistical process control methods, understanding of lean principles and/or ASQ Certification as a CQA and/or SSBB a plus. Valid Driver's License in good standing and proof of insurance. Specialized skills/knowledge/ability

Robust knowledge and understanding of a combination of fabrication, heavy steel weldments, machining, coatings, engineering and/or structural estimating. Fluent skills in reading customer specifications and engineering drawings including interpretation of industrial fabrication, piping and related drawings. Must have the ability to maintain excellent working relationships with various internal departments such as Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, EHS and External Supplier networks. Competent PC skills and comfort using MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, E-mail and other corporate based systems. Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T). Able to look at elements of a project and know priorities in terms of how, and in what order, things need to be done. Follow-through skills; ability to maintain timelines with people and vendors. Keen attention to detail with strong attention to a methodical approach to work. Highly motivated, self-starter capable of working and delivering results on own initiative; Resourceful and knows where to find sources and answers. Strong financial acumen desired. Travel up to 5% (generally to a customer or vendor only as needed).
