Position Duties: Design product to intended level of function, durability and cost with focus on manufacturability for thermal management systems. Define the product and all its components with focus on function, durability, manufacturability and cost. Define and release component and assembly drawings, manufacturing and stage drawings in close cooperation with plant industrial engineering, product design and application engineering. Develop thermal management modules (TMM) for battery electric and conventional vehicle. Design and develop thermal management modules (TMM) to regulate the battery temperature, cabin temperature, power electronics temperature based on ambient condition and different mode required to increase the overall efficiency of the vehicle using CREO. Lead Mechanical design and packaging of components of Integrated coolant system (ICS), Integrated refrigerant system (IRS) to meet system and vehicle requirements while optimizing for efficiency, cost, weight, manufacturability, and serviceability. Develop component and system level requirement based on vehicle-level requirements and customer experience to create customer specifications. Develop wiring harness to meet electrical and system requirements of thermal management modules (TMM). Develop and execute component and subsystem design verification plans and test methods to validate adherence to requirements. Manage releasing of the CAD models, drawings and ECR for production using Product Lifecycle Management tool Integrity and SAP. Conduct and coordinate (with product engineering) tolerance stack-ups and basic engineering calculations. Serve as primary project technical contact to manufacturing, supplier quality, purchasing and prototype shops. Define prototype content requirements, coordinate drawings/ Bill of Materials (BOM) with product design engineering and track prototype production. Gain an understanding of all processes used to produce the components and the assembly. Assist in supplier development to ensure supplied product meets all functional requirements. Perform Design of Experiment (DOE), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (D-FMEA) and participate in Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (P- FMEA) for plant/operations. Assist in establishing component and assembly level requirements for testing and analysis and coordinate with Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R). Complete and sign off on the DVP&R together with the project Application/Development Engineers. Coordinate, monitor and conduct tests depending on complexity of test scope. Participate in and execute returned parts analyses (RPA) and root cause analysis. Coordinate design or manufacturing related tasks. Participate in cost reduction activities. Work on the Automotive SPICE framework as per the project requirements. Conduct and implement the Product Feasibility Analysis (PFA) inputs to the Design. Conduct the Design For Assembly (DFA) & Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field plus two (2) years of experience in the position offered or a related position. Two (2) years of experience must include: Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T); Testing, analysis and design verification plan and report (DVP&R) process; Design failure mode and effect analysis (D-FMEA); CAD software; CREO, CATIA V5, NX, SolidWorks, and Ansys; Advanced Spring Design; Wiring harness design; Actuator Design and testing; and Durability testing. Travel required up to 20% to various and unanticipated Schaeffler locations and client sites, domestic and international. Telecommuting permitted two (2) days per week.
