Job: Senior Manager of Restricted Funds
Job Summary: Reporting to the Senior Associate Controller, the Senior Manager of Restricted Funds is responsible for accounting, financial reporting and compliance related to the College's endowment and restricted private gifts & grant accounts.
Senior Manager of Restricted Funds will manage the accounting, reporting, compliance and financial modeling for the College's restricted fund activities including endowments and private gifts & grants. Responsibilities include overseeing the annual endowment spending distribution, ensuring compliance with donor and grant restrictions, private grant post award compliance and other reporting requirements. This role also involves recommending actions on various issues related to endowments, restricted accounts, and other assigned projects, creating schedules for endowment distribution account holders, producing restricted fund reports for internal and external stakeholders, and performing or reviewing complex account reconciliations.
This is primarily an in-person position, with some flexibility for hybrid work as approved by your supervisor.

Primary Responsibilities: Evaluate, recommend and implement appropriate accounting policies and practices for restricted private gifts & grants and the College's endowment according to the U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the New York Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act (NYPMIFA) , specific donor requirements and other regulatory requirements. Review new restricted gift and endowment agreements to determine the appropriate classification in the College's general ledger and set up new funds in Workday and the College's endowment software Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of endowment and restricted private gifts and grants that includes the original donor documentation and historical reporting. Produce necessary endowment and restricted gift & grants reports on a fund-by-fund basis for key stakeholders. Support post-award private grant activities. Review and approve all expenses charged to restricted funds via Workday to ensure compliance with donor intent. Prepare and/or review journal entries required for the proper accounting of the restricted funds including, endowment investment activity, draw activity and monthly restricted fund release entries. Participate in a Restricted Fund Committee which includes representatives from Finance, Development, Provost and General Counsel to develop best practices on the management of restricted funds. Work closely with the Director of Budget & Planning to develop budget and forecasts for the projected usage of the restricted funds in support of the College's operating budget. Supervise one senior staff accountant. Supervise the senior staff accountant (or Budget analyst) in the preparation of the monthly grant accrual entries, invoices, and drawdown requests, where applicable. Conduct monthly reviews to ensure the use of restricted expendable funds aligns with donor intent. Contribute to year-end closing and preparation for the annual audit and other applicable audits and reviews. Perform other essential duties and tasks as assigned. Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in accounting is required. C.P.A. license is preferred A minimum of five full years related experience in accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required Knowledge of and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and New York Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act (NYPMIFA), particularly those accounting and endowment stewardship principles used by colleges and universities. Knowledge of advanced accounting practices, including accounting for endowment funds, investments, government and private grants, and planned giving trusts/instruments. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, particularly important skills include: prior experience working with large worksheets with complex formulas, pivot tables and graphing. Strong written, oral, interpersonal and collaboration skills. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines and initiatives and work accurately and independently to meet deadlines. Previous experience in an accounting office of a college or university preferred. Knowledge of Workday systems preferred.

Salary Range:
$95,000 - $105,000 annually
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
