About the role
Muon seeks an
Head of FPGA
to join our satellite development team in Mountain View, CA to build the software that runs our orbiting satellites.
The ideal candidate is a capable people manager and has experience organizing and directing complex FPGA projects throughout a complete lifecycle from concept to delivery. Previous experience working on interdisciplinary projects is a strong asset, such as robotics, autonomous vehicles, avionics, or aerospace.

This position can be based in Mountain View, California, United States or Remote.
Responsibilities
Guide a team of FPGA engineers that are developing Muon’s algorithms and firmware by implementing algorithms in hardware descriptor languages, HDL (Verilog), to solve for our constellation and mission needs
Experience planning FPGA development activities, contributing to program schedules, and delivering capabilities on schedule
Collaborate closely with our Scientists, Flight Software, Electrical, RF, Instrument, and Systems teams to resolve design strategy and requirements ambiguity for challenging FPGA designs, RF Instruments and Optical Instruments
Develop project test plans and test procedures, provide test planning support, and assist in the execution of both lab testing and field testing
Hire and mentor new team members to build the capabilities and capacity of the team
Create an inclusive, collaborative, and team-oriented culture that fosters high productivity and opportunities for growth
Identify and implement processes, tools, and infrastructure that help accelerate our design and development effort
Own the end-to-end development from product concept to delivery to customer/mission
Excitement to tackle diverse opportunities week to week
Qualifications
3+ years direct management experience of 4+ people
7+ years experience on high performing FPGA development teams
Demonstrated ability to drive a collaborative technical team across multiple projects
Significant current/previous hands-on technical work on an interdisciplinary project (such as robotics, autonomous vehicles, avionics, or aerospace) with DSP, RF and Optical development
Experience in HDL Design / Development including HDL coding
Experience with test bench development, testing and V&V
Nice-to-have Skills
Experience with DSP, RF modulation/de-modulation, and signal sampling fundamentals and FPGA implementation
Experience with specific technologies such as Xilinx RFSoC, MPSoC, Vivado and SystemVerilog.
Experience building and executing on technical roadmaps and plans
Equivalent experience or B.S. in computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, robotics, aerospace, or related field
Experience evaluating external IP in build vs. buy decisions and licensing
Salary The salary range for this role is $150k - $250k and will depend on a candidate's skills geographic location, qualifications, and experience as defined during the interview process.
