From ideation to production, you will work with a diverse and experienced team of design engineers to support Aerospace industry leaders and spearhead technological advances in transport decarbonization.
Job Description KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Use experience with Electromagnetic design concepts and permanent magnet motor design, apply theoretical and practical skills in electromagnetic motor design and development for precision motor brushless DC motor drive systems.
Generate electromagnetic motor designs to design and/or customer specifications utilizing MotorCAD, Ansys Maxwell, Atlair Flux, SPEED and/or JMAG software. Conduct independent motor design analysis through computer analysis and prepare reports on results.
Apply knowledge of power electronics and how they interact with motors to integrate power electronics with electric motor design.
Develop, maintain, and upgrade tests for design verification and validation for electro-mechanical product
Use design experience and specifying advanced motor test equipment, design and specify advanced motor test equipment and perform design verification activities.
Interact with external customers for work related projects and translate customer requirements and electromagnetic principles to product design.
Complete rigorous documentation, including design specifications, verification test plans, and change orders associated with design changes. Utilize MS Excel and MS Word to summarize data and issue reports on design work.
Communicate with peers and supervisors including documentation of work, meetings, and decisions.
Interface with new product development project teams to transition products into production
Provide guidance to outside contract personnel to support projects. Provide work direction, coaching, and guidance to technicians and/or co-ops.
Support compliance to Regulatory Requirements including electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility (EMI/EMC), Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and RoHS standards. Participate in selection of vendors and fabrication sources to in accordance with quality and compliance to released specifications.
Utilize knowledge of steady state and dynamic performance of electric machines in combination with power electronic converters to maximize the performance and cost of a drive system (motor and electronics) the designer must know the tradeoffs of performance between the motor and electronics so as to not penalize one or the other for cost or performance. Analyze data from designs of working prototypes interpreting data from digital data acquisition systems and signal processing equipment in order to make needed adjustments to improve performance or other attribute about the design. Properly select pole counts in motors for customers who have their own electronics and specify these commutation requirements which in turn dictate the motor pole/slot combinations that allow it to be compatible with the customer's electronics using motor-drive commutation techniques.
