Blue Origin
ECLS Lead Mechanical Design Engineer - Lunar Permanence
Blue Origin, Seattle, Washington, us, 98127
At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building the sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the Lunar Surface. As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers the candidate prepares detailed and assembly drawings for flight hardware parts and ground support equipment, and incorporate design changes using CAD tools. Develops, maintains, submits for release engineering drawings, systems designs and/or engineering documentation and data by applying company, industry, and governmental standards. A Mechanical Designer creates, develops, and maintains systems designs by applying good engineering judgment in preparing design layouts, modifying existing designs and assisting in identifying design discrepancies. The candidate may support trade studies which require basic analysis and engineering fundamentals. A Mechanical Designer supports engineering system design and functionality, along with validation activities. Specifically, you will lead your team's impact on all aspects of designing, building, testing and flying Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLS) flight hardware. The ECLS System is composed of the essential hardware to allow humans to safely inhabit space. ECLS circulates air around the vehicle picking up carbon dioxide, humidity and trace contaminants to be scrubbed and provides oxygen for breathing. The internal cabin pressure is maintained and monitored. Clean drinking water is provided to the crew. The ECLS system also monitors air quality as well as emergencies such as rapid depressurization and fire and counteracts them. We are a hardware rich design team.
