ABOUT THE POSITION

Structural Bridge Engineer | Providence, RI | Wethersfield, CT | Hybrid

VHBs Rhode Island Structural Team has an opening for a Structural Bridge Engineer to join our established and growing team. You will be working on a wide variety of bridge projects in Rhode Island and New England using cutting edge tools to design and create digital models of bridges. Responsibilities

  • Perform structural modeling and design of highway, pedestrian and railroad bridges and other structures
  • Create plans and digital models of the bridges and highway bridge approaches
  • Perform bridge inspections
  • Develop construction cost estimates
  • Prepare contract documents
  • Review fabrication drawings and provide construction plan reviews

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong technical skills in bridge/structural design
  • Experience developing design reports, plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated and commitment to learning
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Training and mentoring skills
  • Effective and comfortable in a highly collaborative team environment
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenBridge, MicroStation v8 and Connect experience is a strong plus

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred)
  • 5-8 years of professional structural/transportation/bridge design experience required (masters degree may substitute for 1 year of experience)
  • EIT required, PE license expected or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Successful completion of NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges training a plus
  • Familiarity with structural modeling/engineering software is a plus
