We are seeking an experienced Cryo-EM Application Scientist with a background in computing to join our team. The specific responsibility will be to set up,
maintain
and manage our
compute
infrastructure for Cryo-EM and Cryo-ET data processing.
A day in the Life: Manage and
maintain
the
compute
setup, ensuring
optimal
performance and security. This includes system setup, configuration, troubleshooting, software and hardware updates, and backups. Work closely with the IT team and site infrastructure team to plan and scale the high-performance
compute
capabilities to meet the needs of the team.
Perform hands-on Electron Microscopy (EM) work for data collection on customer and in-house samples to support sales, marketing as well as internal R
&
D projects. Process and analyze electron microscopy datasets using both established and emerging software packages. Stay up to date with the
latest
advancements in processing methods,
software,
and associated IT infrastructure. Collaborate with internal and external researchers and scientists to understand their requirements and provide technical
assistance
with data processing. Contribute to the development of new microscopy technologies and the implementation of new methodologies for data processing and analysis.
Keys to Success: This position is ideal for an experienced electron microscopist with a deep familiarity of cryo-EM and cryo-ET data processing, with emphasis on
compute
hardware, software, user management and networking. The ideal candidate will
possess
the following combination of education,
experience,
and skills:
PhD degree or equivalent with solid understanding of data processing for Life Sciences EM, Structural Biology, or X-ray crystallography. Experience interacting with highly technical customers and the ability to communicate sophisticated technical concepts to a variety of audiences.
Access to a strong customer network within academia and
pharma
industry. Ability to independently
identify
, define and implement solutions in a highly dynamic technical environment, specifically: Experience deploying compute nodes and storage servers/SANs in a datacenter or hybrid environment. Cloud experience is a bonus.
Experience in architecting, setting up,
maintaining
, stress-testing, and benchmarking professional CPU/CPU+GPU CUDA compute nodes in a heterogeneous OS environment (Linux + Windows). Experience in setting up and
maintaining
compute
environments to enable cross/multimode
compute
is a bonus.
Experience with high-capacity, high performance storage (
TrueNAS
, WEKA, VAST,
etc
) requirements, configuration, and provisioning. Proficient in planning, installation, configuration, and upgrades of a SAN architecture. Plan, architect, and deploy storage projects and solutions for backup, data protection, performance, and upgrades.
Experience with SMB, CIFS, NFS, ZFS storage presented to a wide array of systems including both Linux clients as well as Windows file services and desktop clients.
Periodic reports on storage
capacity
and
utilization
and system uptime and performance. Support for critical issues and complex projects.
Supervising of
all storage for integrity, reliability, resource
utilization
and availability.
Willing and able to travel internationally up to 20%.
