Responsible for managing the administrative operations of an academic department, OR several small departments within a college, OR a medium to large non-academic department. The CAO oversees all activities related to departmental administration, including: IT, facilities, student services, contracts and grants, budgetary financial management and human resources. Manages a professional staff comprising professionals in various fields. Assumes accountability for decisions made by subordinates. Performs long and short term planning for function. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals results in additional costs and personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules The Department of Cell and Tissue Biology participates in research and teaching activities within the School of Dentistry and broadly within other schools and the graduate divisions at UCSF. It had total revenue of approximately $16 million for fiscal year -2024. The Chief Administrative Officer reports directly to the Chair and indirectly to the School of Dentistry Finance Director and serves in an advisory capacity to the Executive Committee, the faculty, and members of the department. The CAO is responsible for short- and long-range planning under direction of the Department Chair and School of Dentistry Finance Director to promote the goals of the department and to maximize utilization of the available resources. The manager oversees all facets of the administrative operations and assures compliance with university and other applicable policies and regulations. Further, the manager establishes and implements effective and efficient management systems to ensure that University and department goals are met. This individual serves as a liaison between members of the department, other departments, the Dean's Office, campus offices, and external agencies. The CAO establishes and maintains timely and appropriate reporting mechanisms for the Department and School leadership regarding fiscal, personnel and other critical management areas. NOTE: This is a hybrid role - 3 days per week on-site. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $105,900 - $206,300 (Annual Rate).
