Job Summary:
The primary responsibilities of the role are the direct management of the most complex fiber construction jobs and oversight of all fiber construction in the market. This position requires fieldwork and may include weekends, holidays, and off-hours. Occasional travel may be required depending on business needs.
Responsibilities:
Project Manager, OSP Construction
Lead construction and splicing projects, providing leadership and mentorship through coaching and feedback.
Take ownership of the most complex projects, shepherding them to successful completion. Build project plans, scope of work (SOW), bill of materials (BOM), order and track materials, and schedule team members.
Manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring quality delivery on schedule.
Perform periodic QA inspections of all active field projects.
Participate in pre-construction and regular status meetings with customers and other vendors to ensure clear expectations and scopes of work.
Conduct site walks and validate that plans and expectations align with conditions.
Prepare all reports and closeout documents per job requirements.
Manage and supervise splicing crews, providing guidance and support as needed.
Oversee large-scale bulk and high-count fiber splicing projects, ensuring efficient and accurate splicing.
Respond to emergency repair situations and provide timely resolutions.
Collaborate with subcontractors and material suppliers to guarantee best-value pricing, timely estimates, and high-quality work on every project.
Qualifications & Skills:
Established relationships with clients and professionals in the fiber optic industry, with the ability to transition these connections into new business opportunities.
Proven track record of successfully onboarding skilled technicians or team members in previous roles.
Familiarity with various Outside Plant (OSP) construction methods, including:
Structured cabling and wiring methods (e.g., building conduit and riser cabling design, splicing and testing).
Aerial and underground construction practices such as directional boring, trenching, backhoe operations, and plowing.
Digger and bucket truck operations.
Expert-level understanding of communications cabling types, overhead and underground construction practices, and fiber optic networks for both metro and long-haul environments.
Deep knowledge of materials, manufacturers, and equipment related to communications cabling products, including UTP and fiber optic cable, Maxcell, sub-duct, fiber panels, and enclosures.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, diagrams, and other provided materials to extrapolate requirements and create material takeoffs, quotes, scope of work (SOW), and method of procedure (MOP).
Capability to read, analyze, and compile test results packages.
Education and Experience:
5+ years of PM/OSP experience, including engineering, splicing, and construction.
Experience managing large-scale projects.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience leading a team in a fast-paced industry.
Strong ability to work within critical deadlines and drive accountability.
Proficiency in Visio, CAD, and MS Office (Excel and MS Project).
PMP or equivalent certifications preferred.
