Position Overview:
The client is seeking a Network Engineer. This technical position will participate in the analysis, planning, design, and development of enterprise network technologies delivering data, voice, and video to the University. This position will specifically engineer, implement, and administer networking technologies for the Oakland and regional campuses and engage in the service delivery functions of the Network Engineering team. Candidate must be highly proficient in all aspects of enterprise-level voice and data networking with a focus on Cisco, Juniper, and other vendor LAN, WAN, WLAN wireless technologies, and F5 load balancer. The position is responsible for the execution of network changes and upgrades aligned with the network architecture and departmental goals and objectives. This position will also perform hands-on testing and integration of new production network technologies and upgrades to include design packages, unit and system-level test plans, system documentation, and change management disciplines. Provide Tier 3 technical support for troubleshooting and problem resolution for all network systems and infrastructure. The position is on call 24×7 to fix network problems and provide extensive problem-solving and leadership to the Network Operations Center and associated departmental teams. This position will also engage with customers and other departments within the University and provide subject matter expertise in the areas of Information Technology and networking. Ability to work remotely is required for this position.
Requirements: Minimum 5 -7 years of enterprise IT experience with demonstrated subject matter expertise in enterprise data routing and switching, voice, video, and wireless (WLAN) Expert level knowledge of data and telecommunication technologies including but not limited to (Ethernet, switching technologies, WAN, LAN, Firewalls, SANs, MPLS, OSPF, TCP/IP, Fiber Optics, Wireless, SIP, BGP, VoIP Protocols and ISIS) The ability to isolate and resolve network performance and communication issues to ensure maximum uptime and reliability Strong understanding of IP Segmentation, VLANs, trunking, Quality of Service (Voice, Wireless, and Data) static/dynamic routing, and high availability configurations HSRP. Implement, establish, and optimize wireless networks, ISE including policy enforcement, and profiling services. Operational experience with enterprise/carrier-class routers and switches (experience with Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, Avaya, Foundry, and F5 Load Balancers required) Operational experience with security engineering, intrusion detection, intrusion prevention, and firewall (Cisco ASA's, and Palo Alto preferred) Extensive experience working in structured management processes for highly available enterprise networks. Leverage modern network operations toolsets through software development principles and network automation (Cisco Catalyst/DNA, GitHub, Ansible, CRON job, Scripting, Python, etc.) Understanding cloud networking (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus Excellent written and oral communication skills Maintaining, creating, and updating network diagrams and documentation. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, conducive to team development Responsibilities:
Develop and design network architectures aligned with IT strategies for the most effective operations and service delivery of the client's network. Identify and develop new technologies for potential integration into the client's network. Develop network lifecycle strategies to meet departmental goals and objectives for improving service and driving down costs. Represent the team and clients with external organizations (vendors, customers, partners, service providers) in the development of IT solutions. Provide leadership in all areas of network engineering and operations on a daily basis. Develop requirements, determine vendor hardware, design, and deliver installation packages, and build documents for various network solutions. Meet with customers and other stakeholders to ensure the design of network solutions meets expectations. Perform lifecycle planning for capacity, performance, and resolution of chronic problems and develop implementation plans. Minimum Education Level Required

The position will report to a group leader/ manager. Minimal supervision. The position needs to be able to operate independently to a great extent. The position will be part of a network engineering team. Highly analytical. The position must be able to perform complex analysis and technical consulting. Responsible for developing budgetary estimates that may exceed 1MM$ Significant impact of decisions on a day-to-day basis. Mistakes may cause University-wide network service outages. Extensive internal and external contacts. Will meet with university faculty and staff to help plan network or security installations on a departmental or regional campus scale. Consultative and customer service driven. Interface with the highest level of staff, faculty, and administration in the University. May recommend products or solutions. May determine the root cause. Determine the course of action to correct any issues with the network - outages, etc
