Job Title: Deputy Director, Institutional Giving Position: Full-Time FLSA Status: Exempt Reports To: Senior Director, Institutional Giving Salary Range: $116,000 - $121,000 Start date: January 5, 2025 Work Location: Flexible BACKGROUND The National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit working to win respect, recognition, and inclusion in labor protections for the 2.2 million domestic and care workers in the US. Founded in 2007, we use organizing and civic engagement, strategic campaigns and innovative research, narrative and culture change, and alliance building to deliver on our mission of improving domestic and care jobs. Our 501(c)4 allied organization Care in Action is the advocacy home for women who care. Founded in 2006, Care in Action builds political power for women of color and domestic workers to ensure they have the economic support they need to thrive. Our movement has made major strides to bring care out of the shadows and begin improving these essential jobs, but there's still much work to be done. NDWA and Care in Action are now in a moment of organizational growth and transformation. A new strategic plan and significant growth capital investments have positioned our organizations to deliver on our transformative, North Star vision: An economy where care is valued and all work has dignity, and a democracy where everyone has a voice and sense of belonging. POSITION SUMMARY We seek a seasoned development professional to act as Deputy Director of Institutional Giving during this pivotal time of expansion. Reporting to the Senior Director of Institutional Giving, you will build out and manage a team of portfolio owners who hold relationships with institutional funders providing both restricted and general operating support. You'll also hold your own dedicated portfolio. Your team's primary responsibilities will include sustaining existing and building new institutional relationships to meet revenue growth goals. Your day-to-day work will consist largely of management and mentorship for your team, management of your portfolio, and collaboration with others at NDWA to implement the overall fundraising plan. This includes working closely with development leadership, NDWA principals, and program teams to meet revenue goals necessary to sustain the implementation of our 2024-2028 strategic plan, as well as our upcoming capital campaign. The right person for this role will have at least 5-7 years of demonstrated, successful experience independently stewarding funder relationships and writing grant proposals and other funder materials; will have prior experience managing development teams; and will be able to navigate competing priorities while moving from project to project with ease. As a member of a high-performing, collaborative, and expanding Development Department, you'll also play a key role in shaping evolving team operations and culture. Primary Responsibilities: Serve as a member of the Development Department to help implement the overall fundraising plans for NDWA and Care in Action. This will include contributing to and managing your team's execution of the annual and long-term fundraising plans for institutional giving. It also includes acting as a thought partner to executive, program, and development leadership to help build strong and diverse revenue streams. Manage a portfolio of active funders while identifying and cultivating additional prospects to sustain and/or grow additional restricted and unrestricted revenue. Coordinate donor meetings and identify opportunities to gather intelligence, strengthen relationships with key institutional donors and prospects, and represent NDWA to identify and cultivate new partnerships. Advise NDWA principals, program leads, and more junior development staff in their interactions with donors and prospects, offering guidance on goals and strategy, preparing materials, and tracking interactions. Collaborate with NDWA principals and development leadership to pursue new revenue sources, potentially including government funding and corporate entities. Support and advise on the development of well-written content that blends storytelling and data to articulate programmatic priorities, impact, and pivots for funding opportunities across all NDWA priorities and programs. This will primarily consist of grant proposals and reports, but also includes concept notes, organizational case statements, questionnaires and application forms for competitive awards, government-issued RFPs, and other organizational and program overviews. Work with the Senior Director of Institutional Giving and Vice President of Development to maintain institutional donor revenue projections. Liaise with NDWA's Finance Department on budget creation, financial reporting, and regular reconciliation of projected and actual revenue and expenses for institutional giving. Support the adoption and fine-tuning of new systems for tracking prospecting, funder engagement, revenue reporting, and financial forecasting as our broader team works to strengthen development operations at NDWA. In collaboration with Development Department colleagues and grant-writing consultants, ensure that NDWA's 100 yearly institutional funder deadlines are met. With support from the Senior Director of Institutional Giving and other development teammates, hire and onboard two additional portfolio owners to support on the responsibilities listed above. Mentor, support, and supervise a team of two to four development staff (including existing FTE). Manage consultant relationships as applicable. Play a defined role in supporting "all hands on deck" Development Department projects, such as annual funder briefings and a donor track at our 2025 Worker Assembly. Develop and maintain a deep working knowledge of NDWA's and Care in Action's history, vision, mission, values, strategic goals, and programs. Participate in other activities as needed, including organization-wide activities such as retreats, monthly meetings, and staff studies. Other duties as assigned. Robust understanding of organizing and movement-based organizations strongly preferred. Familiarity with issues facing low-wage workers, immigrant communities, and women of color, as well as experience across 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 organizations a major plus.
