General Description:
The Accountant I-II acts as a Generalist for the Finance Department. TVC is a mid-size agency looking for someone who has the work ethic and drive to be part of our successful team. In addition to listed duties, this position will have the potential to carry out more advanced finance tasks to support the department overall. Our philosophy is to have employees interact with as many areas as possible to prepare them for future roles. TVC utilizes the Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS) for financial and payroll transactions so it will be necessary to learn complex systems quickly. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, a proven ability to learn and research issues independently, have good problem-solving skills and demonstrate strong analytical and system skills. The chosen applicant will be able to build their skills and apply them at more advanced levels to support the finance group. This is a great opportunity for the right individual.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Process FVA grant payments, produces vouchers and enters data into CAPPS. Acts as liaison for finance with the Fund for Veterans Assistance Process FVA SECC donation deposit vouchers in CAPPS/ USAS Assists in completing monthly reconciliation of FVA grant payments and works with FVA personnel to resolve any issues. Cross-train and back up to Finance accounts payable accountant and travel accountant Creates and enters deposit vouchers into CAPPS or USAS as needed. Uses USAS/SIRS/CAPPS to search, analyze, run reports and make correcting entries. Attends CAPPS User Groups. Contributes to development of business processes. Maintains and consistently develops policy and procedure in areas of focus. Serves as generalist and backup to any accounting functions as needed. Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers. Must be able to handle multiple tasks concurrently. Strong attention to detail. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in accounting, finance or business administration. To substitute experience for education the candidate must show they have held progressively responsible positions related to accounting. Substitution is on a year for year basis.
College Transcripts are required and must be provided before an interview can be extended, it is preferred they be attached to the application.
Minimum Experience:
• Accountant I - One (1) year of accounting experience in a State of Texas agency.
• Accountant II - Two (2) years of accounting experience in State of Texas agency.
Additional Requirements:
• A valid Texas Driver's License must be provided within 90 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
• One to two years of experience using the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS).
• CAPPS/PeopleSoft Financials experience strongly preferred.
• Strong experience with SIRS, SQL Queries and Business Objects reports preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems. Skilled in using Microsoft Excel and Access to create spreadsheets and queries to extract financial information. Ability to work accurately with numerical details. Ability to analyze, consolidate and interpret accounting data. Ability to work effectively with customers, co-workers, and agency staff. Ability to use sound judgment and make decisions. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to work efficiently and independently in a dependable and organized manner to meet various deadlines. Ability to quickly learn multiple system requirements and troubleshoot solutions to issues.
Environmental & Physical Conditions:
Normal office work environment, mostly sedentary in nature. May involve walking; standing; remaining stationary for long periods of time; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping, and bending; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Work involves extensive telephone usage and repetitive hand/wrist/finger motions while using the computer.
