Job Description:
MEI has a job opportunity for an experienced Substation Engineer to be an integral member of our design team. The scope of projects will include long term strategic design of substations and overall high/medium voltage electrical distribution for multiple data center campuses exceeding
1000MW overall capacity. This role will be highly collaborative amongst MEI staff, clients, vendors, and external disciplines. Travel to job sites may be required for site observations, client meetings, factory witness tests, etc. This role is based in Phoenix, Arizona or Austin, Texas.
Job Duties: Independently drive physical designs for electrical substations throughout design and construction phases (both new construction and upgrades/retrofits). Design high and medium voltage electrical distribution for large scale data center campuses. Oversee the production of one-line diagrams, conceptual designs, plan-section drawings, foundation, grounding, specifications, and any additional drawings needed to complete a comprehensive set of construction documents to build substations of varying sizes. Work amongst a cross-discipline design team, owners, and contractors to develop drawings and specifications. Coordinate with external vendors, internal design teams and manufacturers. Major equipment selection and scheduling. Lead QA/QC process and sign off on engineering documents. Perform substation testing and commissioning as needed. Develop proposals (scope of work, estimate, etc.) Minimum Qualifications:
7+ years of Professional Substation Engineering design experience designing high/medium voltage power distribution, physical design, transmission line design, etc. Valid P.E. license and Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Experience working independently, managing priorities and providing mentorship to junior staff. Strong understanding of electrical codes. Ability to think strategically and demonstrate flexibility in order to achieve long-range objectives. Self-motivated, comfortable with ambiguity and motivated to work as a team and lead others. Top-notch organization, attention to detail combined with excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD, BlueBeam, BIM and Revit.
