Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager

The Role: The Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager will report to the VP of Production and act as the strategic leader for all EHS-related initiatives across Meati's operations. This role is responsible for developing, leading, and executing comprehensive EHS programs, driving cultural transformation towards safety and environmental sustainability, and ensuring regulatory compliance on a national or multi-site scale. The Senior EHS Manager will provide expertise and leadership to both management and technical teams, ensuring the implementation of best-in-class EHS practices and the achievement of key performance metrics.
Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership & EHS Program Development:
Lead the design and execution of a comprehensive EHS strategy that aligns with corporate goals, focusing on sustainability, regulatory compliance, and risk reduction. Oversee the development and continuous improvement of EHS and industrial hygiene policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with local, state, federal, and corporate regulations. Act as a thought leader, keeping the company at the forefront of EHS standards and emerging regulatory trends. 2. Environmental & Safety Management: Spearhead environmental management programs, including waste reduction, pollution prevention, energy efficiency, water conservation, and overall resource optimization, driving efforts to minimize the company's environmental footprint. Ensure full compliance with environmental regulations (EPA, state, local) and corporate environmental goals, identifying potential risks through environmental impact assessments and audits. Develop and champion new initiatives to reduce environmental impact and improve sustainability outcomes, with an eye on innovation. 3. Compliance, Reporting & Risk Management: Lead high-level environmental audits and impact assessments to identify risks and implement mitigation strategies across all operations. Serve as the company's subject matter expert on EHS laws and regulations, providing strategic guidance to senior leadership to ensure proactive compliance. Oversee the preparation and submission of environmental and safety reports to regulatory agencies, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and completeness. 4. Incident Management & Continuous Improvement: Lead the investigation of complex EHS incidents, including root cause analysis and the development of sustainable corrective actions. Establish a process for identifying, escalating, and resolving critical EHS issues. Establish and track key EHS performance metrics across all sites, leveraging data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Implement industry-leading EHS technologies and systems to enhance safety, incident tracking, and reporting. 5. Training & Employee Engagement: Develop a robust EHS training program that is scalable across locations, ensuring all employees, contractors, and leadership teams receive the necessary training to uphold safety and environmental protocols. Foster a safety-first culture by leading employee engagement initiatives and empowering staff to actively participate in safety and environmental programs. Serve as a mentor and coach to site-level EHS teams and cross-functional managers, providing ongoing support and guidance on safety-related behaviors and practices. 6. Cross-functional Leadership & Collaboration: Partner with senior leaders from production, operations, and other departments to integrate EHS strategies into business operations. Act as the primary liaison with external regulatory agencies, contractors, and industry associations to stay updated on best practices and regulatory changes. Lead and facilitate EHS committees or teams to drive collaboration across all organizational levels, improving overall safety performance and environmental responsibility.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Safety Management, or related field required. Master's degree or advanced certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional, ISO certifications, Lean Six Sigma) preferred. 7+ years of experience in EHS management, with a proven track record in a senior or multi-site leadership capacity within a food manufacturing or industrial manufacturing environment. In-depth knowledge of EHS regulations, environmental standards (EPA, OSHA, ISO 45001), and sustainability best practices. Strong leadership abilities with experience in managing and mentoring EHS teams across multiple locations. Proven ability to influence and drive EHS culture and behavior change at all levels of an organization. Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to develop and implement EHS strategies that align with broader business objectives and lead to measurable improvements in safety and sustainability performance. Communication & Collaboration: Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and align cross-functional teams and senior leadership. Other Requirements: Flexibility to travel as needed to different sites and work outside of regular business hours to meet business needs. Compensation:
The base salary range for this role is $130,000 - $150,000 annually, which is just one aspect of our total compensation package. In addition to the salary, this position is eligible for a potential annual bonus and equity! Actual compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
