POSITION DETAILS:

Under the direction of the CISO and IT Security Admins, you will perform assigned tasks and/or projects pertinent to your internship requirements. This Internship program is intended to provide an immersive exposure to Information Technology and responsibilities required to ensure a robust cybersecurity posture. The internship provides an opportunity to participate in not only technology initiatives, but also enhance skills in refinement of corporate policies, processes, and cyber education.

From a technology standpoint, key activities may include isolation of legacy systems, and further refinement of our security information and event management (SIEM) solution and service. This internship role will attend cyber security team meetings and help plan tabletop exercises. This program will also provide basic insights into understanding cyber insurance and customer/vendor contractual requirements related to data protection and business continuity. Such position will enable you learn the skills gained in your college coursework, while simultaneously aiding us in protecting our systems. Snohomish County operates a state of the art local and cloud architecture based on the latest technologies, including virtualization and AI.
SNOHOMISH COUNTY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Snohomish County supports internship programs that provide work experience for students in an accredited post-secondary institution that is related to their course of study. The internship program is designed so that the student will have the opportunity to apply principles and theories learned in the classroom, gain new skills, explore a career path and be supervised and mentored by a professional in their field.
The student may choose to receive scholastic credit for their internship in accordance with the guidelines set by their school.

NOTE: This is a paid internship with an expected work schedule of no less than ten hours per week. The internship is expected to last 10-12 weeks. The internship will be from December 2024 - February 2025 with flexible start and end dates. This internship takes place in-person, at the county campus in downtown Everett, and there is no option for remote work.

BASIC FUNCTION

IT and Cybersecurity interns will grow their skills and enhance their career potential as they work closely with cyber professionals on mission-focused projects, while learning in a fast-paced, technology-evolving environment. Interns gain valuable exposure to cybersecurity activities and initiatives.

Job Duties

STATEMENT OF ESSENTIAL INTERNSHIP DUTIES
  1. Evaluate end of life system management.
  2. Participate in external corporate cyber audit/benchmarking activities.
  3. Participate in and aid in planning tabletop exercises and business continuity refinement.
  4. Participate in policy and process discussions and help coordinate updates.
  5. Aid in the refinement of SIEM solution and service
  6. Maintains effective communication with internal and external stakeholders via email, phone and in person meetings.
  7. Participate and contribute to department meetings, execute on goals and objectives to deliver outstanding results.
  8. Assist with special projects as assigned, including assisting the cyber admin in technical research.
  9. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.
  10. Understands and performs in accordance with all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.
  11. Complies with all standard operating policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Have completed a minimum of 2 years in college/university in a related field of study.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills and familiarity with Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel.
  • Must be able to show proof of enrollment in an accredited post-secondary institution at the time of the Internship. If the Internship occurs during the summer, the student may either provide proof of summer or fall enrollment. Must be currently working towards a degree in a technology-based program, or closely related field.

SUPERVISION
The intern is closely supervised and will receive direction from an IT Professional as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The work is generally performed in typical office conditions. Customers are primarily internal at the County. Job requires regular contact outside Department of Information Technology. Entails frequent repetitive movements at a computer or business machine.

The County's contribution toward the premium for an employee in a regular part-time appointment will be pro-rated in an amount equal to the F.T.E. percentage the employee is assigned.
