As our direct care staff work with youth that are 18-24 years old, we require that applicants are at least 25 years old.
POSITION SUMMARY: CHC is looking for a passionate and energetic Residential Manager to support its Safe Haven Program in Hollywood, CA. The Residential Manager (RM) will possess excellent communication and organizational skills to effectively coordinate, supervise, support, and train a team of Youth Engagement Specialists to deliver services that are strength-based, trauma-informed, harm reduction focused, and model our mission of providing absolute respect and unconditional love to all young people.
The Residential Manager (RM) works with the Safe Haven Director (SHD) to provide leadership and management of day-to-day operations of our 80-bed emergency shelter program and help oversee and supervise all Safe Haven shifts. All CHC staff work together as a team to facilitate safety, support and comprehensive programming, with the Residential Manager ensuring this is provided to young people in accordance with the Covenant House Mission, Code of Conduct, Five Principles and CHC Policies and Procedures.
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt Salary, 40-hours per week
SALARY RANGE: $66,560 /year
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage and coordinate the youth engagement services, ensuring support and care provided to young people, by Youth Engagement Specialists is strength based, trauma informed and respectful.
- Provide direct oversight, supervision, training, and coaching to all Youth Engagement Specialists and Youth Safety Advocates, including interviewing, and onboarding new staff, and participation in any disciplinary action or coaching needed during a staff’s employment at CHC.
- Participate in administrator on-call rotation with the Safe Haven Director.
- Facilitate team meetings for informational and training purposes in conjunction with the Safe Haven Director.
- Identify training needs and advise the leadership team on training opportunities.
- Assist in setting and coordinating weekly/monthly staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage 7 days per week 24 hours a day.
- Provide emergency back-up staff coverage as needed during staffing shortages or during crisis situations for all shifts.
- Monitor and review staff timesheets for appropriate timecard punches, punch edits must include notes/justification and never to off-set late/early arrivals or adjust for overtime, reviews, and signs final time sheets for staff he/she supervises (or as needed/approved). This includes ensuring lunch/meal periods are taken and documented appropriately.
- Assign and monitor staff responsibilities for any given shift, including but not limited to supervision of young people and activities, cleanliness of facility, facilitation of night meetings, transportation of young people to appointments, facilitation of group activities when appropriate.
- Leadership of daily shift transition meetings ensuring information, updates, safety concerns, celebrations and duties are communicated thoroughly.
- Create and facilitate daily life skills training and participation happens with young people. Modeling staff engagement and working alongside young people to complete daily life skills.
- Oversee young people that are placed in onsite internships as assigned.
- Monitor the use of petty cash including the timely submission of receipts to the Safe Haven Director, this includes the accurate documentation of public transportation passes and taxi vouchers.
- Active participation in all success planning meetings as a member of the circle of support with young people and their case managers. This is assigned and participation is seen as supportive and a means of identifying opportunities for the residential team to support young people outside of just their case managers.
- Daily/weekly documentation into the ETO database that includes engagement touchpoints, CIR’s, census updates and other datasets as assigned.
- Conduct monthly fire and earthquake drills, ensure documentation is kept on file of drills and that the team prioritizes this.
- Create opportunities for building community amongst young people and staff that is inclusive and affirming, ensuring young people feel welcome, seen, heard, and valued.
- Provide opportunities for young people to give feedback and suggestions on current and future programming and relay feedback to leadership for review and consideration.
- Monitor program census to ensure compliance with CHC open intake, restriction, discharge and re-entry policies and procedures. Ensure ongoing monitoring and carrying out of strategic plan goals for program.
- Ensure food services, meals, snacks and the overall health and safety compliance around food storage and serving is prioritized and followed by Youth Engagement Specialists or those assigned to support the food service at the site.
- Organize outings and on-site activities and workshops to foster community, engage young people, build rapport, and have fun together while learning and growing. This includes active participation and leadership with the Community Involvement Coordinator onsite.
- Provide crisis intervention to young people, as appropriate.
- Encourage young people involvement in the development and ongoing review of their individual success plan, support young people to achieve established goals and maintain awareness of case management process and issues for individual young people.
- Complete all other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in human services preferred. High school diploma, relevant life and/or work experience will be considered in lieu of bachelor’s degree.
EXPERIENCE: Experience with youth experiencing homelessness or trafficking, youth with experiences in the foster care or juvenile justice system, or youth that have been marginalized or are vulnerable. Must have 1-3 years management/supervisory/coordination experience working within a residential setting, case management experience preferred.
SKILLS: Knowledge of adolescent development, crisis intervention, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, CPR and First Aid. Must have good organizational skills and the ability to communicate with members, clients, vendors, and the public. Ability to exercise situational awareness, appropriate authority when needed and good judgment in crisis situations.
TRANSPORTATION: Must have a valid CA driver license, have reliable transportation and a good driving record.
CONDITIONS: This position is Full-Time (40hrs/week). Participation in the on-call rotation schedule. The on-call is responsible for providing on-call coverage for the shifts assigned to them on the rotation schedule.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES: Provide direct and indirect supervision to young people, youth safety advocates, Youth engagement specialists, and per diems.
EQUIPMENT USED: Computers (including email), telephone, and fax used on a regular basis.
