Job Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the engineering and production processes with a focus on deep hole drilling, CNC programming, setup supervision, and maintenance. This role involves managing a team of engineers, CNC programmers, machinists and maintenance technicians to optimize manufacturing operations, improve efficiency, and ensure high-quality output. The manager will also drive process improvements, maintain safety and compliance standards, and foster a collaborative and innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Team Leadership and Supervision:
- Lead and manage a team of manufacturing engineers, CNC programming and setup technicians.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to ensure effective execution of CNC programming and machine setups.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality, and maintenance departments, to align production goals.
2. Deep Hole Drilling Expertise:
- Oversee the design and implementation of deep hole drilling processes, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with quality standards.
- Develop strategies to optimize deep hole drilling performance, reducing downtime and waste while maintaining high levels of precision.
3. CNC Programming and Setup:
- Supervise CNC programming and machine setup activities, ensuring that programs meet technical requirements and maximize machine efficiency.
- Review CNC programs and setups for accuracy, optimizing cycle times and tool usage for cost-effective manufacturing.
- Implement process improvements and troubleshoot CNC machining issues to ensure smooth and continuous production.
4. Maintenance:
- Supervise regular preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize breakdowns and perform routine inspections of machinery to identify and address potential problems before they escalate.
- Collaborate with production teams to prioritize maintenance tasks and minimize disruptions to the manufacturing process.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, assess the situation, and implement effective repairs to minimize downtime.
5. Process Improvement:
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies to increase productivity and reduce waste.
- Analyze production data to identify opportunities for improvement in terms of machine utilization, product quality, and process efficiency.
- Drive automation and advanced manufacturing techniques to streamline operations.
6. Quality and Compliance:
- Ensure all manufacturing processes comply with company and industry quality standards, including ISO certifications if applicable.
- Monitor and maintain safety standards and best practices on the shop floor.
- Implement corrective actions when necessary to address quality or safety issues.
7. Project Management:
- Manage engineering projects from concept through completion, ensuring timelines, budgets, and resource allocation align with company goals.
- Coordinate the implementation of new equipment, tools, and technologies to improve manufacturing capabilities.
8. Cross-Department Collaboration:
- Work closely with product design and development teams to ensure manufacturability of new products.
- Liaise with procurement, vendors, and suppliers to source materials and equipment that support manufacturing needs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree a plus).
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, including deep hole drilling processes and CNC programming.
- Proven experience in CNC programming, machine setup, and supervision, with a strong understanding of G-code, M-code, and CAD/CAM software.
- In-depth knowledge of deep hole drilling techniques, tools, and equipment.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage cross-functional teams.
- Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with automation and advanced machining technologies.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 or other quality management systems.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and production planning software.
Work Environment:
- Combination of office and shop floor environments.
- Interaction with heavy machinery, requiring adherence to safety protocols.
