Overview
The Clinical Research Center (CRC) is an outpatient, hospital-based clinic which provides nursing services for pediatric and adult participants enrolled in research studies, with an emphasis on autoimmune diseases (particularly Type 1 Diabetes), and immune therapies. The Registered Nurse supports and supplements regular staff during high census days and in other special circumstances, by providing various nursing services including:
- Starting IVs
- Infusing investigational agents
- Performing blood draws
- Checking vital signs
- Monitoring for adverse events
- Other required nursing support to the research staff
The Per Diem Research Nurse will cover primarily day shift hours, though evening and night shifts may periodically be offered. Due to the nature of scheduling on the CRC, the available shifts offered to the Per Diem pool often vary substantially from one month to the next. The usual operating times of the CRC are 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Flexibility and availability are key qualities on the Per Diem RN team.
Responsibilities
- Provides nursing services for pediatric and adult participants
- Administers study drugs (IV, IM, SubQ, and PO) including biotherapy administration and monitoring
- Provides back-up phlebotomy to medical assistants for participants with difficult veins (including pediatric blood draws)
- Maintains compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), International Conference on Harmonization (ICH), Health Insurance Portability and Accounting Act (HIPAA), and institutional policies and procedures
Qualifications
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Washington State
- Two years of professional nursing experience in a high acuity patient setting
- BLS certification required, ACLS and PALS highly desirable
- Excellent IV and time management skills
- Pediatric and/or research and/or Type One Diabetes experience preferred
Compensation
$41.44 to $65.88 per hour
