The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law is one of the nation’s leading national racial justice legal organizations. Formed in 1963 at the request of President John F. Kennedy, the Lawyers’ Committee uses legal advocacy to achieve racial justice, fighting inside and outside the courts to ensure that Black people and other people of color have the voice, opportunity, and power to make the promises of our democracy real. Job Title : Director of Digital Media Location : Washington, DC Job Type : Full-Time About the Role: The Director of Digital Media is responsible for managing and enhancing the digital channels and platforms (website, social media, e-communications, digital advertising and marketing) for the Lawyers’ Committee on local, national, and global scales. This person will work closely with the VP of Communications to set the strategy, tone, and goals for the Lawyers’ Committee’s digital presence and engagement. This requires bringing innovative thinking and a strong knowledge of website design, architecture, and development, digital marketing, and advertising, content creation, audience and community cultivation and engagement, email programs, digital campaign planning and execution. The ideal person for this role is a creative and strategic thinker who knows how to use data to build goals and drive work. This individual must be exceptional at developing and engaging digital communities and advocacy, executing fundraising campaigns, possess in-depth technical know-how, and have an eye for clean and user-friendly design. The Director will manage the digital media coordinator and will collaborate closely with the entire communications team to achieve a cohesive and experientially rich digital presence including strategic alignment, brand elevation and consistency. The Director of Digital Media will be a part of the organization’s management team and will work under the supervision of the Vice President and in close collaboration with Program Directors and other staff. What You’ll be Doing: Responsibilities of the Director of Digital Media include but are not limited to: Execute innovative data-driven and cost-effective digital strategies to support business objectives, including engagement with key third-party digital stakeholders, influencers, and partnering organizations. Work across the organization to develop and implement a digital strategy as well as content creation for all of Lawyers’ Committee’s digital platforms including social media, website and email campaigns to drive increased awareness and engagement, and support fundraising efforts. Work closely with the Director of Earned Media to ensure that programs capitalize on key events and earned media coverage. Collaborate closely with the VP of Communications and Digital Media Coordinator to plan and implement the organizations’ overall digital goals and strategy. Provide regular and in-depth analysis of digital content and engagement performance across all channels. Lead the team that maintains the organization’s presence across various digital platforms (lawyerscommittee.org, X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.). Lead the development and implementation of successful email programs/campaigns. Work with Communications department and program teams to develop, maintain, and implement digital content and campaigns to further engagement around key organizational initiatives, positioning, and products. Shepherd the Lawyers’ Committee’s online social network and execute an engagement strategy. Partner with designers and developers to conceptualize and implement design elements. Drive the development of digital creative solutions across departments. Develop and maintain all processes and workflow in partnership with the Vice President to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget. Source content, develop training materials and communications, analyze regular reporting, lead regular community of practice calls, and coordinate with vendors. Educate departments on digital trends, creative approaches and opportunities across web and digital channels. Build strong relationships with department heads. Stay on top of trends in the industry including new technologies and theories. Minimum Requirements and Competencies: Bachelor's or Master's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 8 years of experience in developing and implementing digital media and/or social media strategies. 5+ years hands-on experience with SEO, Google Analytics, Google Ads, WordPress and/or other CMS. 3+ years of leading a team and mentoring junior staff. Have expertise in creating and implementing successful digital advocacy and fundraising campaigns. In-depth knowledge of communications channels and industry trends. Good knowledge and experience with online social media tools and best practices. Proactive in suggesting innovative ways to expand audience reach and improve engagement. Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills. Strong knowledge of digital design and implementation. Strong working knowledge of and experience in creating and executing data-driven marketing campaigns. Sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on the organization’s success.
