What Your Job Will Be Like: We are looking for a highly motivated mechanical engineer to be a part of our dynamic team and support programs developing and deploying advanced nondesutructive evaluation (NDE) capabilities with a focus on ultrasonics! You will have a strong technical interest in NDE methods, and will be responsible for the planning, setup, and oversight of complex experiments. Key functions of this role include, but are not limited to: Leading R&D efforts in the development of novel NDE diagnostics.

Conducting of a wide array of experiments using various techniques including ultrasound, microwave, eddy current, and radiography in both fixed facility and remote locations.

Processing data using various software systems.

Installing, operating, and maintaining laboratory equipment including instrumentation and data acquisition systems and software.

Conceptualizing and communicating major elements of experimental design and results to fellow staff, management, and visitors.

Leading teams of fellow staff and technologists, interfacing across multiple organizations at all levels to meet mission needs.

Investigating anomalies and implementing alternative solutions to problems.

Writing operating procedures, analysis methods, and laboratory procedures.

Salary Range: $109,300 - $217,400 *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential. Qualifications We Require: Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering or related STEM field and five years of relevant experience or a Masters degree in a related STEM field and one year of relevant experience

Experience developing NDE methods

Computer programming experience (Specifically MATLAB, Python, LabView etc.)

Familiarity with hazardous industrial operations (X-ray, laser, mechanical, etc.)

Experience processing digital imaging data

Experience with test program development and implementation

Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q clearance

Qualifications We Desire: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to interact with fellow colleagues with diverse technical backgrounds as evidenced via conference presentations and publications

Strong understanding of mechanics in order to interface with the Nuclear Security Enterprise's testing laboratories

Experience in fixture design and fabrication

Command of PC platforms including graphics programs, Computed Aided Design (e.g. Claris Draw, Auto Sketch, ProE or Solid Works), Word, and Excel

Experience handling multiple and diverse job assignments

About Our Team: Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories. Our team consists of engineers and technologists specializing in nondestructive inspection and x-ray diagnostics, design development, and engineering discovery interfacing closely with computational solid mechanicians and data science experts. Our center is the steward of engineering mechanics for Sandia and we are dedicated to solving our customer's most pressing and important national security problems. Our group specializes in experimental technologies related to structural mechanics, structural dynamics and non-destructive evaluation. Along with our state-of-the-art experimental technologies, technical expertise, and analytical capabilities in sister departments, we provide integrated customer solutions in the following areas: accurate characterization of structural response of systems to force and pressure environments, development and application of innovative radiographic and acoustic diagnostics, structural dynamics testing including modal analysis and vibration characterization, and design expertise for fixturing and development of experimental configurations. Our mission is to support fundamental research, development, model validation, qualification and acceptance for nuclear weapons, satellites, national missile defense and other applications.
