Nesco Resource, Plainview, New York, United States,
Our client is a leading defense / aerospace manufacturer experiencing exciting rapid growth, therefore they are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to join the team.
This role demands a strong understanding of mechanical systems, expertise in 3D modeling, and in-depth knowledge of industry standards (e.g., MIL-STD-810, ANSI/ASME Y14.5) to ensure designs meet performance, durability, and manufacturability criteria. Ideal candidates will excel in independently managing projects from concept through to production and demonstrate expertise across various areas, including production processes, electrical engineering (EE) interfaces, and design for manufacturing (DFM). Strong technical writing skills, including Statement of Work (SOW), and development of NRE cost. Solid experience in authoring Qualification Test Plans and Reports are a must.
To be considered for the Mechanical Engineer opening, here's what you'll need to bring with you:
Master's (preferred) or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 10 years in mechanical systems design, analysis, and complex assembly integration in aerospace, automotive, or high-precision manufacturing environments.
Background in high-precision or aerospace manufacturing and production processes.
Experience with vendor coordination, sourcing for complex assemblies, and knowledge of electronic and mechanical integration.
Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo) for detailed modeling and assembly drawings.
Experience with Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS Mechanical ).
Strong understanding of ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T, MIL-STD-810 for environmental testing, MIL-STD-461G for EMI, and SAE standards for material and component testing.
Experience with structural analysis, materials selection, and performance testing, particularly for high-stress and complex assemblies.
Knowledge of production processes, including DFM principles, lean manufacturing, and an understanding of PCB fabrication and assembly.
As a
Mechanical Engineer , you will : Develop detailed mechanical designs and 3D models per ANSI/ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) standards.
Perform part decomposition, design updates, and assembly integration for complex, high-reliability systems (MIL-STD-810G).
Interface with electrical engineering (EE) teams to ensure design compatibility with
Engineering Analysis and Testing
Conduct torque, stress, and structural analyses to confirm material suitability under MIL-STD-810 environmental conditions, including temperature, vibration, and shock resistance.
Perform trade-off analyses and validate designs against MIL-STD-461G (EMI) and SAE AS9100 for quality.
Execute final functional testing and compliance assessments, ensuring adherence to performance specifications.
Select materials and classify components based on standards such as SAE AMS (for metals) and ASTM for polymers, ensuring optimal performance for machining, casting, and injection molding.
Collaborate with vendors to source materials and components, conducting feasibility studies on off-the-shelf (OTS) vs. custom parts, considering DFM and lean manufacturing principles.
Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including specifications, process sheets, test procedures, and Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP) compliant with AS9100 quality management requirements.
Ensure designs align with MIL-STD-130 for marking and traceability, producing comprehensive documentation packages for manufacturing and quality assurance.
Lead design reviews, integrating cross-functional feedback from customer requirements, production, quality, and EE teams to refine and optimize designs.
Coordinate with PCB fabrication and assembly teams to ensure smooth transitions from design to production, supporting DFM and process improvements for manufacturing readiness.
