Overview
Walsh is currently seeking Safety Managers for our Transportation Group in New York, NY. The Safety Managers will be assigned to support marine-based projects working on barges in navigable waterways.
The Safety Manager assists with inspections, accident investigations, conducts safety meetings, and the overall implementation of the Project Safety and Health Program. The Safety Manager shall be responsible for compiling and maintaining necessary records, logs and other reports pertaining to safety required by the contractor, client, Federal, State and Local regulations.

Responsibilities
Works directly with the Project Manager and the management team to develop and implement an effective site-specific safety plan.
Assists project management in the coordination of the safety and health of Walsh employees, subcontractor, vendor and owner personnel working on company project. Coordinates project safety programs with subcontractors. Assists in planning and coordinating work to minimize risks, and aggressively manage losses involving injuries or property damages. Develops Job Hazard Analyses (JHA). Reviews THA's, work permits and archiving of safety documentation.
Conducts weekly safety inspections; conducts daily evaluations of work activities on the project site, equipment and processes for compliance with applicable local, state and federal regulations, as well as company and owner policies and procedures.
Leads accident investigations and prepares incident reports or Project Management review. Recommends and verifies implementation of corrective measures.
Manages work-related injuries to Walsh and subcontractor employees with emphasis on medical evaluation and treatment. Ensures all safety protocols are followed.
Oversees implementation of Confined Space Entry program including protocols and air monitoring.
Manages Company’s Drug-Free Workplace Policy, ensuring proper testing for Pre-Employment, Vehicle Authorization, Reasonable Suspicion, Post-Accident, Random, and Follow-Up.
Provides training and education to Company personnel regarding safety protocols and procedures, including coordination of new hire safety orientation programs.
Completes daily safety reports for the project team and submits a weekly safety update to the Regional Safety Manager.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or equivalent
CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician) Certification (preferred)
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in the construction safety field. Marine experience preferred.
Excellent communication skills, critical thinking and problem solving abilities, and ability to prioritize, organize and manage time
Knowledge of regulations and standards as well as hazard recognition and injury management skills
Required to stand, sit, walk, work on water-based vessels, and/or climb stairs or ladders
Jobsite Specific Qualifications:
OSHA 30 construction certificate (w/ in 5-ys.)
62-Hr. SST Supervisor
Minimum 3-yrs. safety-related experience on construction / marine-based projects
