Job Description
Pre-Construction Estimating:
Prepare accurate cost estimates for retail and restaurant construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs. Bid Preparation:
Lead the bid preparation process, including gathering quotes, analyzing subcontractor proposals, and preparing bid packages for submission to clients. Project Scope Reviews:
Review project drawings, specifications, and scope documents to identify cost-saving opportunities and ensure all elements are captured in estimates. Value Engineering:
Provide value engineering recommendations to meet client budget constraints while maintaining project quality and integrity. Subcontractor/Vendor Coordination:
Solicit and negotiate pricing from subcontractors and vendors to ensure competitive and accurate pricing. Budget Management:
Collaborate with project managers and operations teams to track project costs and update estimates as needed throughout the project lifecycle. Risk Assessment:
Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies during the pre-construction phase. Client Communication:
Maintain open communication with clients and stakeholders regarding project estimates, revisions, and changes. Software Utilization:
Utilize estimating software such as ProEst, PlanSwift, or Bluebeam, as well as project management software like Microsoft Project and Primavera, to compile estimates. Reporting:
Provide detailed reports and cost analysis for internal and client review. The Successful Applicant
Experience:
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a construction estimator, with specific experience in retail and restaurant projects up to $15 million. Education:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred. Software Proficiency:
Strong proficiency in estimating software (ProEst, PlanSwift, Bluebeam, etc.) and project management software (Microsoft Project, Primavera). Skills:
Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills. In-depth knowledge of construction processes, materials, and building codes. Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple bids simultaneously.
Certifications:
LEED certification or PMP certification preferred but not required. Attention to Detail:
Ability to produce highly accurate estimates and foresee potential challenges in the project scope. Experience with value engineering and cost-saving techniques specific to the retail/restaurant sector. Familiarity with design-build project delivery methods.
