Serves as a member of the clinical team under the general supervision of the Physician and Clinic Manager. Assists the physician in the care and treatment of the patients by rooming patients, taking vitals, scheduling procedures and obtaining pre-authorizations.

Responsibilities: Maintains accurate, up-dated health assessment on patients, Monitors patient’s vital signs as indicated, assesses need for health care intervention for walk-in services, orders tests with thorough explanation and preparation of patients. Prepares patient charts on daily basis, making sure physicians schedule flows smoothly. Greets all patients, families, physicians, and staff that present to the unit and answers the phone with a welcoming attitude and ascertains their needs. Communicates and coordinates any unresolved patient/family issues promptly to unit leadership. Engages in assisting with the scheduling of procedures and obtaining pre-authorizations. Acts as an appointed champion of patient satisfaction and improvement. Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines. Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance. Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position. Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare. Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year. Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance. Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants Current CMA certification through one of the of the following credentialing body; AAMA, AMT, NCCT or NMA. Previous clinical experience in a medical office preferred. Computer data entry experience. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work as a team member
