Program Overview
The Youth Outreach Adolescent Community Awareness Program (YOACAP), is a program partner of the Urban Affairs Coalition (UAC). Our agency's mission is to enhance the quality of life and health for Philadelphians through community-based and culturally competent interventions. Since 1989, we have addressed health concerns, workforce development, and life skills in low-income, underserved communities. Today, our mission has expanded to help youth and young adults learn job readiness skills, academic achievement, and experience using technology.
Position Summary
The Outreach Worker is a part-time position providing information, services and/or referrals through established face-to-face contact with individuals in non-traditional settings, during traditional and non-traditional hours within communities on street corners, in recreation centers, barber shops, and parks. The Outreach Worker works towards establishing supportive and trusting relationships with members of the target population and when necessary, assume an advocacy role on the client's behalf. The Outreach Worker will also assist the Unit Leader to plan street outreach initiatives, recruit volunteers, and provide resources to individuals at risk of gun violence.
Rate of pay is $20 per hour and the Outreach Worker will work approximately 15 hours per week.

Responsibilities
- Provide street outreach services including distribution of resource guides, individualized mentoring, and referrals
- Must assist with outreach/engagement and recruitment of clients, including completing paperwork or other services related to the contract
- Assist Unit Leader to develop and implement a plan of operations to conduct street outreach services including selection of outreach locations that are most productive for reaching the targeted population and designating the appropriate interventions and materials
- Assist Unit Leader to develop and implement a plan to identify and link with relevant community agencies for client recruitment, material dissemination, referrals and networking.
- Understand and comply with appropriate field safety protocol while engaging in outreach activities.
- Maintain daily log detailing outreach activities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Possess minimum two (2) years experience in street outreach
- Experience working with, ability to speak the same language and within the same age range as the target population(s).
- Knowledge about available community resources and ability to refer clients to them.
- Demonstrate capacity to maintain appropriate documentation.
- Possession of knowledge of issues related to safety, client engagement and professionalism.
- Familiarity with neighborhoods in Philadelphia, able to work outside during winter, spring, summer, and fall
- Comfortable talking to people that they do not know; must be outgoing.
- Strong commitment to being involved in the community and providing anti-violence resources
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access software.
- Ability to use public transportation or have drivers license and regular access to a car
