Job Title: Part-time Custodian (Flexible evening hrs/M-F) Hours: (20) per week

Union Affiliation: Blue Collar Starting Salary: Maintainer II, $22.44/hr

Function:

Under the direction of the Superintendent of Public Buildings, performs a variety of custodial and maintenance duties at all Town Buildings.

Typical Duties, Responsibilities, Tasks & Assignments:
  • Assists in the maintenance and upkeep of the physical condition of all Town buildings and equipment. Will be required to cover the Police Dept. as needed. Summer duties may vary based on need.
  • Maintains all types of floor surfaces, including various types of tile, wood, carpet and concrete. Mops, sprays, buffs, strips, seals and waxes floors using appropriate materials and equipment. Vacuums, spot cleans and shampoos carpets. Removes and cleans floor mats and carpet runners.
  • Operates a variety of cleaning equipment, including but not limited to, auto scrubbers, burnishers, stripping machines, extractors, vacuums, sweepers, and buffers.
  • Understands and complies with cleaning methods and proper use of cleaning agents and maintenance materials for safe and effective performance.
  • Maintains, cleans, mops and supplies restrooms. Maintains service rooms and storage areas in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Washes windows and polishes metal and wood.
  • Removes trash containers and empties trash from buildings to designated disposal areas. Lifts, handles and moves various cleaning equipment, furniture, pails, barrels and supplies. Locks and unlocks premises as directed.
  • Moves furniture and does simple repair work.
  • Sets up tables and chairs for activities requiring such.
  • Assumes responsibility for assigned keys to open, close, lock and unlock doors. Safeguard Town property from vandals and users of the buildings.
  • Maintains and observes all safety policies and procedures ensuring safe work conditions and reducing hazards. Reports safety and fire hazards or conditions warranting repair to supervisor. Applies energy conservation measures at all times.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
  • Knowledge of materials and methods used in cleaning and of the use of manual and power-driven cleaning and polishing equipment.
  • Ability to use tools and mechanical equipment used in making minor building repairs.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to enforce regulations firmly but courteously.

Special Skills & Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent required. At least one year of custodial experience preferred. Knowledge of Facility Dude preferred but not required. Demonstrated ability to read, write and follow instructions as well as meet the physical demands of the work involved. Basic understanding of cleaning agents and materials custodial equipment. Must possess (or have the ability to obtain) a valid Connecticut Operator's license.

Pay Range: $22.44 per hour
