West Vista Dental in Columbia, SC, is seeking a dedicated Dental Assistant to support our team in delivering high-quality dental care to our patients. This role involves assisting our dentist and hygienist during treatments and procedures, as well as overseeing sterilization, preparation, and inventory of dental instruments and supplies. Essential Duties:
- Assist patients with minor issues, answer questions, and provide clear directions as authorized by the dentist. Collect and document patient health histories accurately.
- Prepare treatment rooms promptly, ensuring all instruments are sterilized and set up appropriately for each procedure.
- Serve as the dentist's chair-side assistant by handing instruments and materials as needed.
- Maintain dental equipment and operatory areas according to infection control and safety protocols, including the sterilization of instruments and safe disposal of contaminated materials.
- Monitor and maintain adequate operatory supplies; compile supply lists for inventory and ordering.
- Participate in daily huddles and complete assigned checklists to ensure smooth, efficient operations.
- Support clinical and administrative tasks as appropriate and as instructed.
- Assist with advanced dental procedures, including crown and bridge preparations, oral surgery, and endodontic treatments.
- Manage laboratory tasks such as pouring impressions, trimming models, creating temporary crowns and mouth guards, and managing case documentation with lab contacts.
- Provide patient education, including post-op care, oral hygiene instructions, and form explanations (e.g., consent forms).
- Schedule follow-up appointments as needed and ensure clear communication with administrative staff for ongoing treatment coordination.
- Make evening follow-up calls to patients who have had invasive procedures (e.g., extractions, crowns, root canals) to monitor recovery.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education / Experience Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- X-Ray Certification (required)
- One year of experience preferred
- Current CPR certification
